We had the good fortune of connecting with Ace Little and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ace, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I always try to put being the best I can be in radio. I prepare for every game I do. It takes 5 days to get ready for one game. When I’m ready, I don’t look at any notes or rosters until game day. I rest for about 34 hours before. In other sports, the prepared time is shorter but I balance rest and other stuff in between games.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This is my 43rd year to do play by play in radio and internet. I started in 1982 and have not slowed down. I’ve called 1,782 games. My goal is to hit 2,500. I’ve been recognized by having the US and Texas flag flown in my honor. The US flag flew over the capitol building in Washington DC and the Texas one over the capital in Austin. I’ve been a part of seven state championships and have rings to prove it. Also I’ve had three proclamations from governors in Texas and Oklahoma in my name. I’ve learned that the more passion I bring to each game, the better. There have been bumps along the way, but you grow and get better because of them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since Amy lives near Dallas in McKinney, we would do stuff either in Dallas or McKinney. If it’s during the season if what sport I’m doing, I would bring her to the game, feed her what is being served at the game and she would have a front row seat in the press box. She’s a personal trainer so I could take her to nice gyms or a place where she could get equipment. If I wanted to do fun stuff, bowling 🎳 or roller skating. She’s so busy being a single mom to two great kids, I think she’s rather sleep.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many deserve credit, I’ve had some bosses that let me do what I do. Also I’ve had great radio partners as well. Best parter is John Hinton in Weatherford. We worked for 10 years and we were awesome. We got to call 5 state championships with Brock high school. Me bring a huge Texas fan, doing those games was special. Lately, it’s Amy Floyd. We knew each other in college and have been almost like brother and sister for almost 13 years. She’s has inspired me to be at my best at all times. She’s amazing!! She knows her stuff being the best personal trainer in the state.

That is me and the current mayor of Dallas. I was recognized for calling all the games and years of bringing high school and college sports to listeners. It was taken September 2022. The other one is Amy at a remote radio broadcast at the McKinney YMCA.
