We had the good fortune of connecting with Abimael Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abimael, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is an inherent part of both life and career. In life, risk can manifest in various ways, such as taking chances on new relationships or experiences, making important decisions with uncertain outcomes, or pursuing personal goals that require stepping outside of one’s comfort zone.

Likewise, in a career, taking calculated risks is often necessary for achieving success and growth. This might involve pursuing new job opportunities, investing in professional development, or taking on challenging projects that come with a degree of uncertainty. However, it’s important to note that not all risks are worth taking, and it’s essential to weigh potential risks against potential rewards before making decisions.

Ultimately, navigating risk effectively requires a combination of courage, intuition, and strategic thinking. Those who can find a balance between taking risks and managing potential downsides are often the ones who achieve the most significant success in both their personal and professional lives.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I currently own two businesses: one offering COVID compliance services in the film industry, and the other, a production supply rental company. For now, let’s focus on the former. Upon returning to work after the shutdown in 2020, I quickly realized the importance of COVID testing. We were getting tested for every shoot I worked on. One thing I noticed was that the testing company changed every time, prompting me to find a way to simplify and centralize the process for production companies. Luckily, my wife, who worked in the medical field at the time, connected me with a lab director who helped me set everything up. Within a few months, my company was one of only two in the Dallas/Fort Worth film industry offering these streamlined COVID compliance services.

It was far from easy; I had to learn something completely new and unfamiliar to me. In a short amount of time, I transitioned from being a one man show to effectively coordinating and managing a team of people.

There have definitely been several lessons I’ve learned along the way.

The importance of perseverance: Starting a new business requires dedication and hard work, and it’s important to persevere through the inevitable challenges and setbacks.

The value of networking: Building relationships with other entrepreneurs, industry experts, and potential customers can be a valuable source of support and insight.

The need for continuous learning: To stay competitive, I’ve had to stay up-to-date with the latest news, guidelines and regulations regarding covid and the film industry.

The importance of delegation: I’ve had to wear many hats since starting my new business, but learning to delegate tasks and responsibilities has helped me focus on the areas where I can provide the most value.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This one’s a bit hard to answer. With my business and spending time with my wife and kids, I hardly have the time to go out and explore the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where do I even begin? There are a lot of people who deserve recognition for their contributions to my success. First of all, my beautiful wife Cindy, whose unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in helping me reach where I am today.

I must also extend my gratitude to the DFW Film industry as a whole, whose unwavering belief and support in my abilities has been a driving force every step of the way.
