We had the good fortune of connecting with Judge 2 Heavy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Judge, how do you think about risk?
“No Risk No Reward”
I think taking risks is essential in everyone’s everyday lives. I mean, we take risks just waking up and stepping out the door, especially in this day and age. Risks mold us into who we are, or who we eventually will become. You never know what you are capable of until you jump out that box, or, what we like to say, “step off the porch”. The doubt, that what if that we all have, it comes from the fear we create in our own minds. You have to be uncomfortable to be a risk taker. Something I’ve learned over the years is you can’t reach the Finish Line if you never START the Race. No Risk, No Reward…
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being well rounded in the tastemaker/influencer industry as well as balancing everything that goes around music and entertainment is not an easy task but I make it work. First and foremost it takes balance. You have to be willing to sacrifice the unnecessary for the essential. Find the goal and plan or map it out. Then the follow through is the most important. Of course it is challenging but I think that is the beauty of the process. Working for something and achieving it teaches you appreciation for what you recieve in the end. Building relationships with others in the same field, as well as people outside my line of work have been instrumental for me.
I believe you should Build Bridges don’t burn them. You never know who can help place you in the position that you need to be. Especially in the Entertainment Industry. Anybody can be an asset.
Me personally I use everything as an opportunity to gain more success. From the people I meet and places I go. I try to make contacts and stay relevant. Make people say “Hey I know you.” I think that is 1 of the things that sets me apart from others. Smiles, Handshakes, Eye Contact.
It has helped me to build the 2Heavy Brand. I’ve learned throughout the years to keep a positive outlook on life and take advantage of all chances because it only takes 1. I pray when it’s all said and done that i am able to leave my stamp
as an influential piece of the Dallas-Fort Worth underground music/entertainment scene.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First spot to hit in the FUNK (Fort Worth) is Tricoastal Radio. Gotta sit down with Big Rip for the interview. Then we have to hit Madea’s resturant in Everman for some Ox Tails, greens, yams, Mac and cheese, and can’t forget the cornbread.
Probably go get a fresh tat from Big Dawg Javier at Vatos Locos Tattoos on Division Street in Arlington.
Late Night Vibes hit up Johnnie Judah or Dj Suede to see where they are spinning at gor the night. Might end up in Deep Ellum at OTR or Club Dada. Maybe even Las Calinas at Visions Eatery if I want to do it Grown and Sexy.
Gotta end the week off Sundays at Villa Koola holla at my people Ricky the Rapper and Finesse Kenny in South Dallas.
Gotta show love to the DFW.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
