We had the good fortune of connecting with Joette White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joette, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe a big part of my success has been the way I treat my employees. They are vital to my business and I believe in putting them first. Each person brings their own uniqueness to the job and I try to meet them where they are. My goal is to build them up and set them on a path to be successful. We all have life going on in the background and understanding that and being sensitive to their personal needs is important. As a result many have been with me 5-20 years. If you take really good care of your people they will take really good care of your clients.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey started nearly 25 years ago. In 1996 I started working for this little pet sitting company in Dallas. In 2000 I purchased the company. I did not have any experience in running a business, but I had a passion for people, animals and good old-fashioned customer service. I focused on making Park Cities Pet Sitter the best pet care company in the Metroplex. I learned early on the importance of taking great care of my employees meant they would take great care of my clients. It has not always been easy. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. I was quick to learn from my mistakes and the value in surrounding myself with people who had strengths where I was weak. I am married with two young boys. I am blessed to be doing something I love and have the support of my wonderful family. I strongly believe in being involved in my church and giving back to my community, and do so by working with local shelters, as well as through education, training, and fund raising activities. I served on the Board of The National Association of Professional Pet Sitters in the mid 2000’s, helping to educate others in the industry about best practices. I continue to mentor those who are new to the industry. I currently serve as the Vice President of the Zoo Crew Booster Club at JL Long Middle School. Zoo Crew helps middle school youth develop their leadership skills, while furthering their science education by working with a variety of animals living on the school campus. Park Cities Pet Sitter, provides dog walking and pet sitting services in the Dallas, Richardson and Plano areas 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In business since 1992, In addition to dog walking and pet sitting, pet taxis, overnight sitting, pet supply shopping, and dog training are all part of the services we offers. PCPSI is bonded and insured, and all sitters are employees–not independent contractors. We have won a multitude of local awards including Angie’s List Super Service Award for 5 consecutive years, “Best of Dallas” by D Magazine, and “Best of’s” from WFAA Channel 8, Dallas Voice, and The Dallas Observer. Park Cities Pet Sitter was also awarded the prestigious NAPPS’ 2017 Business of the Year–this is a national award given to a pet sitting company that demonstrates outstanding business practices and vision in maintaining and growing their business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
WOW…great question! I would suggest some of the touristy spots that I still enjoy, like Reunion Tower Observation Deck, the Perot Museum, the Sixth Floor Museum. I think the Dallas Arboretum is a beautiful place to visit. The Dallas World Aquarium is always a great place to take the kids! I am not into fancy restaurants. I prefer good food in a comfortable atmosphere. I would take them to a great steak house and MiCocina…my favorite for Mexican food…then we would hit little places along the way during our day, depending on where our plans took us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I had run a pretty successful business for several years, but at the end of the day didn’t really have much to show for it. I was one catastrophic event away from losing it all. I had clients and staff depending on me and my company’s success. I finally got to a place where I was open and ready to do something different. That is when I started working with Erin Fenstermaker. Pretty quickly after I started working with Erin I knew she was different. I had worked with a few other coaches/consultants in the past…it never worked out. They would hand me a list of “to do’s” and then expect results, but I did not work well that way. She was different. She knew how to reach me and pull out my strengths and then help me with my weaknesses. She has made such a difference in my business and personal life with her approach and techniques…I could go on and on. She is personable, approachable, consistent and she is constantly motivating me…..she is on my side. She is not motivated just by money; she is motivated by making a difference, and your success means her success.
