We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Wax and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, if you had a million dollars to invest right now, how would you use that capital?
Oh I love this questions. If I had a million dollars right now, I would start with opening up a studio. Living in Texas the weather is always unpredictable and you never know when you need to bring your sessions inside. Not having my own studio makes my options very limited not to mention it changes up the style I like giving my clients. Having my own studio wont just give me a new location option, but it will also giving me the opportunity to branch out from doing just weddings and I will get to start providing boudoir on a more regular bases. On top of getting the studio, I would love to get my hand on the new latest and greatest Canon equipment. The Canon 70-200 2.8 III series lens has been calling my name for a few months now.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I try to stay true to myself as much as possible. I love colors and natural light (flash has never been my friend), so I try to make sure every session I do portrays that style. I don’t like it when my colors are washed out or my whites are so over powering you loose the important details. I pry myself on my eye for details, it is one of the many reasons why my couples hire me. But not all weddings and situations allow for me to have that style. Even though my couples hire me for my lighter style, some tend to still book the darker venues which makes it hard to deliver on what my portfolio shows. That is when flashes and editing comes into play. I try my best to make each wedding natural as possible, but sometimes it’s just not in the cards and I have to just make sure that they get the images they deserve and would be proud of.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love it when my bestie from Nashville visits me. It’s a chance for us to catch up and just have fun. Most of our trips together starts with a trip to Whataburger. Who can turn down a great burger and fries when you are on vacation? Next we are always down for shopping and getting pampered in the Alliance Town Center. I love going to Onyx Nail bar, it’s so relaxing and a perfect atmosphere to just catch up. We typically end the night at Sushi Zushi, munching on a California roll ends the night perfectly.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been a dabbling in photography for close to ten years. It wasn’t until we were planning our wedding 6 years ago that I became good friends with our wedding photographer and then I fell in love with shooting weddings. Caity was the first person that encourage me to pursue my photography on a more professional level, Shortly after my wedding, I started taking classes and building a portfolio that showcased the style I want to deliver to my clients. It has been roughly 5 years since my first wedding and still today I turn to Caity for advice on editing and equipment and just about anything photography related. If it wasn’t for her encouragement, I don’t think I would be doing what I am doing today.
