We had the good fortune of connecting with Coleman Morris-Goodrick Lesley Brandt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Coleman Morris-Goodrick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We moved to Far West Texas with the intention of ‘lying flat’ stepping away from the daily grind and spending more time doing what we love. Our families encouraged us to start a small scale roasting facility were we roast coffee in small batches. Our aim is to find balance in practicing our craft while fostering and creating relationships and creating life experiences outside of work.

What should our readers know about your business?
Coffee allows for meaningful, sustainable relationships locally and in a global coffee community. It is important to us to be transparent, tell the story of the coffee, who grew it, how was it processed, imported, roasted and how best to enjoy it. That is why we roast in small batches with the desire to highlight the distinct and delicate flavors that are found in coffee. There are so many people involved in making your cup of coffee delicious.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Far west TX is beautiful country, upon arrival it is hard not to be in awe of the vast open spaces and the pace of life lived out here. When friends are in town we try not to overwhelm them with activities but encourage them to slow down an take it all in. Of course we enjoy drinking great coffee at home and at Big Sandy (where they brew Marfa Coffee CO), long walks admiring the desert landscape, amazing sky and the old adobe buildings. Visit the small boutiques down from the courthouse including Esperanza Vintage, Communitie, Garza, Pronghorn, Cobra Rock, and Marfa Soap. One must also appreciate the role art has had on shaping our small town. Tours at Chinati and Donald Judd Foundation, walk through Ballroom Marfa and Art Block. There is also really good food in Marfa, Margaret’s for homestyle meal, Convenience West for the best BBQ, Bordo for an excellent sandwich and to die for gelato. A star party at McDonald Observatory, Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute, an 18-acre garden that features a wide variety of native plant, swimming in the natural springs at Balmorhea.
A drive through Big Bend State Ranch Park, visiting Terlingua a ghost town, hiking, camping, soaking in the Big Bend National Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our shoutout goes to our family and friends who have encouraged and supported us along the way. They have enabled us to pursue our passion for coffee, as well as provide critic to do and be better. It was family who helped us secure funding for a roaster, painted walls, and helped to haul in bags of green coffee.
