We had the good fortune of connecting with Ash Meredith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ash, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
My kids are still very little (5 & 2) but I think as far as impact- one of the things I can already see having an affect is letting them make decisions for themselves from a very early age. From the time they can say words/point I’ve taken a few opportunities a day to have them make a decision. Whether it’s holding up a few options of a snack at the grocery store & them deciding what goes in the cart, what shirt they wear or even something as simple as what colors they paint with that day. It’s given them confidence in their voice & decision making skills already! For example: my daughter decided she wanted to wear a Christmas dress during valentines week at school. I asked her what she would say if any of her friends asked her why she chose that and she said “I’ll just tell them I like being different”. She came home & told me how much all her friends loved her dress that day. It made me so proud that she felt proud of her decision.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been working as a makeup artist for 8 years. I absolutely love the transformative aspect of makeup. Whether it’s something dramatic or a look that’s natural, there’s always a major impact. It’s fascinating how personal makeup is & how people connect to it in different ways. It can be as simple as applying a mascara that makes you feel pretty or as intricate as creating a full on body paint that becomes a living/breathing piece of art; I love celebrating that range of artistic connection. No matter the style, Makeup is empowering & seeing that In action is what inspires me the most. I love bringing together my love for both beauty & editorial makeup- challenging what is considered “wearable”. Makeup is my art & the skin is my canvas!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
For sure I would take them to main st in downtown grapevine! I love the nostalgia that main st brings, such old school charm. There are tons of unique little shops, great restaurants & The Grapevine farmers market is one of my favorite places to visit. Being outside with friends, eating & supporting small local businesses is my idea of the perfect week!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate this my niece Megan. She has been such an incredible support system throughout my entire life but especially as we navigated adulthood together. She’s always encouraging me to have confidence in myself whether it be job opportunities, creative endeavors, or even parenting. She has been through so much recently, yet has been incredibly positive and still made the effort to be there for others. She will forever inspire me to be and do better!
