Artistic and creative careers are among the most rewarding, but they also come with unique challenges. We asked some of the city’s best creatives to tell us why they choose to pursue a creative career.

Chris Stanley | Actor and Comedy Magician.

It is how I am created. When God was putting the pieces of Chris together, He left out the ability to do a normal job. I have always thought differently then the people around me. I love to make people laugh. It wasn’t until I graduated from college that I truly felt I could be an entertainer as a career. I saw other people doing it….why not me. Read more>>

Anna Prim | Overall Creative & Resin Artist

I choose a creative career because it’s who I am on the inside. When I was younger, I would always be doing arts and crafts around the house. As I started getting older, I would see something on TV or on the internet and think to myself “I think I can make that” , and that’s exactly what I did. I have tried so many projects over the past few years just because it was fun for me to do. Once I realized people were making a living off being a creative, I dove head first into it. This was something I’ve done my whole life, so why not make it my career. I have to admit though, it did take me a while to really put it out there for other people besides my family and friends to see. When the pandemic hit, I, along with a lot of other people decided it was the perfect time to take the leap and I haven’t looked back sense, Read more>>

Andrea Alvarado | Photographer and Creative

Art has always been a part of me! Since as young as I can remember I loved using my hands, whether that was to draw, paint, or build! I would use scraps of things I found to make new things and those creations usually lead to more creative versions. I loved to draw people and explore the details of their physical being to put on paper. All those crafts and creative passions lead me to photography. In photography I get to carry over those passions I had as a child and turn them into real life! I get to build and put together the scene I want and capture those moments and details with my camera now. I get to use my hands in every bit of what I do and leave a touch of who I am in them. I love that it’s still part of my inner child that got to travel to my adults life and thoroughly enjoy it! Read more>>

Ashton Vonshore | Interior Designer

I pursed an artistic career because of freedom and having the opportunity to make a choice. In this industry you’re able to make judgement on things that make you happy and how they make you feel. Other professions are very disciplined and driven by numbers. In my career, I’m able to help someone’s mental being through a beautiful design or color selection. Read more>>

When I hear the words artistic or creative I think about how things are perceived. We live in a time where people’s thought process is one-sided but the beauty of a creative career is that it’s limitless. Honestly the creative career chose me, I was just a girl obsessed with capturing a moment in my life. As a creative, I have the freedom to visually express a feeling, a meaningful moment, or the next trending brand. Read more>>

Amy Jenkins | Visual Artist & Educator

I am a product of FWISD and my path to an artistic career started immediately in kindergarten! Seriously, my art was selected to hang at the Fort Worth ISD Administration building way back in 1975. Honestly, I really remember wanting desperately to participate in Strings-the program where kids wore snazzy little red vests and learned to play violin, but my parents simply said they couldn’t afford a violin for me. Pencil and paper are affordable. From the realization that pencil and paper are affordable, and violins are expensive, I practiced drawing. My schoolteachers continually encouraged my art making, so for positive attention I kept making it! It didn’t hurt for me to see my father and uncle drawing magnificent art works, so I felt like I might’ve inherited the ability to recreate things I see. Read more>>
