Meet Brian C. Hill | Business Professional & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian C. Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian C., what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned in business is that I have to believe in myself and my abilities.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With an IT background and ending my video recording business over ten years ago, I was still searching for a way I could help businesses market themselves. I not only wanted to help them market themselves but I also wanted a way to hear about their successes and failures. This was interesting to me and would be beneficial because it could help someone else who may be faced with the same challenge. Then it dawned on me why not create an online platform that provides business advice through a podcast?
I probably pondered about this idea for a good two to three years only to either talk myself out of it or continue to put it off. The biggest challenges I faced were internal thoughts. “Who’s going to listen to me?” Or “What makes you the go-to expert?” These were some of the thoughts that always made me either rethink my plans or put this idea off. It was basically fear or as some would call it “Imposter Syndrome” which made me feel like I was inadequate even though I have real-world experience and the skills that suffice.
In 2019 I was tired of making excuses for myself and decided to finally start a business podcast. It took me about a year in preparing as I had to get podcast equipment and software and create the website. After getting the website completed I was ready to record my first episode. I didn’t like how my voice sounded but after recording yourself you learn to get over how you sound. I’ve learned that my voice sounds how it sounds and that’s what makes me unique.
Over time I’ve come to love my voice and embrace it which is no longer an issue for me. Another issue of concern was making mistakes or saying those filler words like “uhh” and “umm” What has helped me with this is making sure that I am prepared by having good notes. Also paying attention to what I am saying which over time I’ve found out gets better and better. Just like riding a bike, the more you practice riding the better rider you become. Also key was making sure I am relaxed. Nervousness can affect a person in all of those areas so I make sure I’m relaxed and always speak with a smile on my face.
One of the best things about having a podcast is that it has helped me to meet some interesting people all over the world. I’ve had an attorney as a guest, the owner of a snow cone business, cookie bakers, and the owner of athletic skirts.
I’ve had the opportunity to have guests as far as the UK, and also I had the opportunity to have a young man who started a cookie business at 6 years old. In pursuit of this venture and outside of this business podcast I’ve picked up so many other skills such as email marketing, social media marketing, graphic design, and web design. I also do the marketing for my wife’s real estate company which has been a blast. One of my proudest works is that started an e-commerce site selling faith-based t-shirts and apparel. So I still get to use just about all of the skills I’ve picked up which started from my days of doing videos.
I love to help people and I’m hoping through this business I can help people find the best versions of themselves. If I can help inspire someone or help give them the courage or confidence to pursue their dreams and goals in business I think this is all worth it. After recording several episodes now I am being contacted by some who discover my podcast or those who desire to be a guest. The more my podcast grows it will only mean more success down the road. So this has been a true joy that makes me feel good that I started this business.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to say that without my family I would not be where I am today. In particular, my wife(LaTyshua) has been my biggest supporter in business and life.
She’s always been there or has been that listening ear when it comes to my ideas, aspirations, and thoughts. Even when my ideas are not so good she lets me know. And that’s good to have because you sometimes need that second opinion on some things. Outside of business personally, she’s been there for me when life gave me treats or threw me lemons. That’s a gift and I’m grateful to God for her.
Besides my wife, my four children (Brian, Brandon, Brodrick, and Brittany) have always supported me. And I have to give credit also to my parents who raised me to do good and taught me that my goals in life are achievable.
