We had the good fortune of connecting with Larry Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Larry, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
That is it more than just making music. You have to be aware about what’s going on, be up to date on how the industry is running, market yourself both organically and through paid ads, you have to network, and the list goes on and on. And you have to be very smart and strategic if you want to be successful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My appreciation and love for music actually started late in life. I didn’t really start listening to it regularly until I hit high school. I was definitely more of a video game person. And my mother didn’t really let me on the family computer much because of the potential dangers I could come across.

However, I have been singing since I was two and was in the choir from 5th grade till I graduated high school. Up until freshman year I’ve always wanted to become a singer. But for some reason, my voice started messing up. I don’t know if it’s because of puberty or if I did something. But I still wanted to be in the music business. So since I realized I couldn’t really sing anymore, I started rapping when I was about 15/16.

From then to now, I’ve been able to open up for Ugly God as well as Gorilla Zoe, network with amazing people in Los Angeles, been perfecting my craft, and trying to gain a bigger following.

People didn’t expect me to get to where I am now. I was always the underdog. But little by little, day by day, I’m proving that I will be successful and that I’ve already come so far. My advice to anyone is that if you want to do something, do it. Other people’s opinions don’t matter.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently moved to Dallas actually. I am originally from Florida. But I’ve found a lot to do here already. I do know that I’d take my best friend to this rooftop restaurant in Knox. I would also take them to Deep Ellum to hit up a restaurant there, the Oaklawn, downtown & uptown. There’s just so much that I enjoy that I’d try to take them everywhere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s a a group of them, but shoutout to my very few friends for the past 10 years who have been pushing me and supporting me in my music. A.T., A.S., B.F., P.C., B.K., and a few others. They know who they are 😉
