We had the good fortune of connecting with Beatiz Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beatiz, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was a culmination of many things behind the thought process for my business. I had many positive and negative experiences in my career and had become burnt out from the stresses of working for other companies and not feeling like I was truly making an impact. I wanted to be a part of making a difference in people’s lives through design and putting my effort into something I believed in. After doing some research, I also found that I was a minority in the industry which was consistent with my experience in the design world. I wanted to have a voice and provide a different perspective to the interior design industry. When the opportunity arose to start my business, I didn’t hesitate. If I could represent my culture and do what I love by helping others create spaces that positively impact their mental health, well being and lifestyle, then creating my own business was worth a shot!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Truly what sets me apart is my perspective on the world and my culture. I travel a lot, I observe and like to learn about other people. I’m most proud of who I am and where I am from. Latinos represent such a tiny portion of the interior design field and even less have their own design business! And it excites me that I get to be a part of helping contribute to a more diverse design industry. I come from a family of hard-working immigrants, of strong family bonds and an understanding of what it is like to put your soul into what you do. My parents pushed me to pursue what I enjoy, and I had a strong drive at a young age to find my passion. I went to college while working full time and learned so much about designing a home that is not just from my education, but also from the 6+ years of work experience I gained by working with other designers in the aerospace field and residential design field before starting my own business. There were many challenges along the way but ultimately my work ethic and experiences have given me a different outlook on interior design. I listen to my clients and understand their needs. My brand is all about curating a space that is functional, aesthetically pleasing and a reflection of who our clients are. I believe a well-designed home will positively impact your mental health and is critical to giving us a space that allows us to relax. I’m excited to get to know the people I work with and collaborate with them on their home!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Gosh, this is a hard question to answer because there are so many places in Dallas Fort Worth one could go. I think the most exciting thing to do is get to know the people of DFW. I would first take them to the locally owned restaurants I have learned about and have come to love! Thai Charm on beach street and El Zabrosito on Sylvania! These two places are small family-owned restaurants that have delicious food! Then I would take them to the Kimball Museum of course, the botanical gardens, the stockyards! There are too many places to list, but I would focus on places that show the beauty of the people we have here in north texas!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and especially my husband have been the foundation of my work. Each and every one of them have supported me in so many ways that are impossible to write out and express. As challenges come and go they are the reason I keep going.
