We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Daigle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, what role has risk played in your life or career?
It’s funny because I’ve never really considered myself to be a risk-taker, but everyone that knows me says that I am. I like to push myself to be the best version of me that I can be – making the conscious decision to remove myself from situations that don’t add value to my life or are causing mental duress- which can be really hard at times. Risk has inadvertently influenced most of my major decisions and choices and has led me to be where, and who, I am today. I don’t think about risk as being dangerous or doing crazy things that could get me in trouble or put me in harms way; I like to think about risk as a necessary force that pushes me to be better and make those hard choices and have those hard conversations. When I started content creating, I was so caught up in thinking “what will people think?”, “will they judge me?” and those thoughts almost stopped me from doing something that I am now so passionate about. I had to take the risk of encountering judgement from others in order to be happy and be the successful creator I am now. Every time I reach out to a brand for collaborations, I am always risking rejection. But without taking that risk, I would have had zero partnerships and brand deals. Risk is unavoidable. Risk is also one of the most powerful tools in creating a life that you desire. You’ll never be able to level up without taking a risk.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work in merchandising for the biggest jeweler in the world. It has taken me a while to land this “dream job” with such an amazing company and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! Getting here was a huge challenge: breaking barriers to entry into such a lucrative industry, leaving behind a high-paying job that I hated to start at ground zero at my current company, moving to a new state & city without my closest friends. I think that being in a merchandising role has fueled my content creation and really pushed me to be more outside-the-box with fashion and creativity. I definitely get a lot of my inspiration for content and socials through my professional job; I’m very lucky to be in the room with such inspiring people who want me to succeed. I would attribute my being in this role to risk taking. I had to make the hard choice to leave a job that paid me very generously, but had terrible culture, to come and start over completely at a new company and take a pay cut at first. But I would 1000% do it all over again because I couldn’t be happier now.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is such a fun question! I’m a huge fan of rooftops/patios and happy hour so the Katy Trail Ice House, Happiest Hour and Harlowe would be my go-to’s. Some of my favorite Dallas restaurants are Musume, Vidorra, Postino’s Wine Cafe and The Henry. If you want a more upscale vibe, I’m obsessed with the Restoration Hardware Restaurant and Perry’s Steakhouse. There are so many fun and cool things to do in Dallas there’s no way I can fit them all in! I love going for walks on the Katy Trail; you can always catch an outdoor yoga sesh or outdoor movie somewhere in Dallas, you’ll need to do a Google search for that one though; there’s an axe throwing bar in Deep Ellum called Whiskey Hatchet that is so fun; and a must-do is the Deep Ellum bar bike tours!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is one book in particular that really changed the game for me and its called, The Secret. This book changed the way I think and helped me realize that there is so much out there and I can do anything I want in this life. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend! I also want to shoutout Lori Harder and her podcast, Earn Your Happy. This podcast is AMAZING. Lori talks about entrepreneurship, self-love, personal development, and life in general. She is so inspiring and this podcast is so motivating for me. I would 100% attribute my mindset and pursuit of life goals to Earn Your Happy!
