Meet Aliyah McGee | Owner of Lotus Lash Collection & female entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aliyah McGee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aliyah, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
My name is Aliyah, I’m the owner and CEO of Lotus Lash Collection, business woman, entrepreneur, and mother all in one. I have 2 beautiful daughters, 4 and a half year old and 10 month old, who are my motivation for why I started and continue my business. My oldest daughter was 3 years old when she wanted to learn how to pack customers orders, cut and print off shipping labels, package products, and even organize them inside the correct containers because she would enjoy when I did it.

Not that my girls are forced to learn the eyelash business, but I do want to show them basic life skills at an early age such as staying organized, paying attention to details, and even work on time management. We also repeat positive daily affirmations together which helps with her self-esteem, when she becomes overwhelmed with things and temporarily control her emotions. I feel that it is most important as a business owner but especially a business owner and mother that you stay optimistic, focus, and manage your time wisely. What has helped me is creating a week by week or sometimes a day-by-day schedule of things I need to complete whether it was for my children or my business.

My oldest daughter is now in the routine of doing things on her own easily, very disciplined in regards to her school work, she makes sure to keep herself upkept and organized. I will soon be able to help her baby sister follow in the same direction.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I believe sets my lash business apart from others is not only the quality of my products but my dedication to go above and beyond for my customers, especially to feel like their best self. I’m proud that I have managed to get this far without zero marketing or sales background. My father was the first to go into business for himself and taught me what he could but lashes and truck industry are completely different so it was only so much information he could give me. There were endless nights and days without sleep, limiting myself on going out or entertaining social media, I was so focused on researching everything about the eyelash extension industry. Being a business owner is definitely difficult at times but my purpose and motivation to become successful outweighs the trials I’ve endured.

I overcome the challenges by staying organized, I maintain a consistent schedule for myself either by writing my daily tasks in my journal or setting a reminder at specific times with my phones alarm clock. My faith is a great influence because I believe that there is more to life than just being average, everyone has a purpose and I love to help other women feel on the inside as beautiful as they are on the outside.

A few lessons I’ve learned along the way are staying consistent with my goals, upholding a promise to myself to preserver no matter what obstacles life will unexpectantly throw at me. What has helped me is staying optimistic whether I’m having a $2000 week or a $0 sales day, it’s so important to remind yourself that you may not make the same amount of money you made the previous day. When the business day is over I sit and think about what I could improve on for the next day. Also I sometimes have to remind myself to eat and rest! There is a false narrative that you have to overwork yourself in order to become successful, I’ve learned the hard way that the human body simply cannot function without adequate nutrients and rest.

What I would love the world to know about myself is that I put my 1000% effort and time into making sure I provide the best quality and care for my customers. I understand the demand for cute, but long lasting eyelash extensions that won’t break the bank. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I have to give my family and bestfriend credit for listening to how unrealistic my goals can be sometimes but still supporting me nevertheless. God definitely deserves credit for giving me the vision, wisdom, strength, and courage to risk being an entrepreneur and business owner. I have to give credit to my team because they have promoted and introduced my brand to a wide array of talented makeup artists and makeup gurus that love my products so for that I am truly grateful.
