We had the good fortune of connecting with Latoya Rideau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latoya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My first thought behind starting my own business was some thing that seems so terrifying and impossible to me while at the same time felt so natural. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and could honestly say I’ve worked as one since a child, helping my mom with hers in fact. We seem to psych ourselves out more as an adult than ever in childhood; so things are very easy to try to self sabotage. As I actually just got started with making small moves things got better just by the spark of my creativity and the optimism of how I would impact others. Overall, I’d definitely say my first thought was false evidence appearing real.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a in-home childcare provider and Birth and Postpartum Doula serving DFW area. I have served since a teenager but wait a family and close friends for years and the aid of labor and delivery in areas where most usually don’t place focus as much as needed. I have helped families prepare for baby as well as provide a deeper and more mental support to women to prepare themselves for the intense task placed upon their body and mind. I have and continuously love to help children with a personal development, self-esteem and growth into what I hope are amazing human beings. I have spent the past three years getting serious about my talents and completing certifications in association two my care for babies and families. I aspire to be a midwife to help women press their fight to healthy and educated births without unnecessary interventions and traumatic experiences. I believe everyone should experience birth in a positive light and create both stories that change the way we see it. My goal is to one day have my own birth center where families feel just as safe and taken care of as they assume from hospital care. I want to help families realize their power in the process and to encourage them to act beyond for the best outcome for their child and family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Even after 30 years I’m actually still finding myself exploring the amazing city that Dallas is! My favorite Area to explore Is deep ellum. A location that reflects everything Dallas. There is art and self-expression everywhere! Great food, entertainment and just a vibe that can match just about any attitude. I go to embrace where I’m from as well to learn more about things I’m learning I like. Will call bar on Crowder is one of my favorite places. Not only are the wings amazing but so is the service. There’s always the music and positivity in the service treat you like they know you. I feel this exact same way about gators restaurant and bar in the west end. I was good service and aesthetic and the karaoke is always a good show. I couldn’t let my friend leave Dallas without a quick wind down at Riviera spa on Knox Street. From the bubbly service and Mamosa to the amazing staff of massage therapist, there’s almost nothing negative to say about this place! I believe in self-care so it’s always great to slow down and just enjoy being pampered. Finally we’d end with Sunday brunch On the beautiful patio of North Italia, with an amazing view of the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out all of my supporters! My mother and Savior first; she is literally the reason I am not only who I am but who I will become. My Gods& ancestors; Who continuously work for me and use me beyond my imagination. I would love to thank anyone who has ever worn the hats of mentorship towards me, especially when I was younger and didn’t know the value of having people really pour into me. Friends and supporters that I haven’t even met yet, thank you for always feeding me energy of encouragement and recognition. For every child whose life I have impacted in someway or form, thank you for letting me be a part of your village and your upbringing. Thank you to those who come to me for knowledge and advice and who trust my word and intention towards their betterment. Big thanks to everyone who’s ever made me question myself and my capabilities both negative and positively. Thank you for pressing me to not only go hard but for the gratitude it gave me to be thankful from the start. Lastly I think myself both past and future, thank you especially for not giving up on me and for believing beyond the fear. For growing through the bad times a negative times that seem like they would last forever. Thank you for doing it for those beyond yourself even on the days you feel like an impostor or undeserving. Thank you for seeing a picture that is bigger than yourself and for not letting this world break you. Thank you for learning yourself so that You see the value in your purpose & faith.
