We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackie Casiano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is my realization that people like to support others that are genuine. My small business is a direct reflection of me and I think that people can see it want to get on board with what I’m trying to do, which is create quality home fragrance with minimal waste in mind. Once I realized that I only need to be myself and rely on my own instincts, it was easier for me to grow as a business and make meaningful connections with customers and partners.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started making candles for myself over a year ago because I couldn’t find candles that I liked or that burned correctly. I started experimenting with different wax and materials and ended up with my first Wicks & Wonder Candle Co. collection. The challenges I faced in my first year of business were about establishing myself as a brand. There are always new ideas that can pull me in different directions. I really had to focus on turning my ideas into products and stay consistent. The challenge that I have now is growing my business to meet the current demand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite spots is Four Corners Brewing in Dallas. They have really good selection of beers and have loteria or trivia on some nights in their Taproom. I also love Ramen Hakata in Addison for some comfort ramen. I’d also hang out at the The Exchange Hall in Downtown Dallas for some more good eats including Rise+Thyme and Revolver Taco Lounge.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my Mom who is constantly supporting me reminding me of why I started this business and what matters when I feel I am in a crossroads. As a small business owner with handmade goods, it can get really easy to steer in so many different directions following random ideas and inspirations, however, that it isn’t sustainable. My mom always encourages me to stay true to myself and to have faith that everything else will work itself out.
