We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Howard-Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I would describe it as an unfulfilled need or urge to share actionable information with people pursuing better health. Starting the health and wellness blog was initiated by that more than it was driven by any logical thought process. The logical thought process occurred afterward since growth and success require disciple and strategy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Back2rootz_ mission is two-fold: 1) to independently research health and health-care topics and create original content in the form of blogs, social media captions/text, newsletters, etc. as a way to support my clients business objectives and expand their community reach; and 2) to provide relatable healthy lifestyle advice – related to healthy eating, fitness, and self-care – directly to diverse consumers on IG: @back2rootz_. People need a trusted source for their health and wellness questions.
I’m excited to enter a new phase that will include more partnerships, panel appearances, and events.
My profession and interests over the last decade have contributed to my health and wellness knowledge. The biggest challenge has been building an audience. The pandemic has limited the opportunity to attend in-person events, so I’m dependent on attracting people with an online presence only. This makes building interest and trust more of a challenge. I anticipate the solution will be getting more involved with online panel discussions, events, and brand partnerships.
My goal is to empower and motivate communities with health information that is easily digestible and provide information that can be applied to their daily lives.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would dedicate my shoutout to my village. There are so many people that have contributed to my personal and professional growth, including your publication. Parents, organizations, mentors, my hubby, friends, and even my blog followers have contributed to my success. They provide me with different perspectives and support me in many different ways.
