Meet Ocean Veau | Sound Designer & Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ocean Veau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ocean, what is the most important factor behind your success?
G-O-D. I could care less about how cliché that may sound but that’s the bottom line. Foundation is so important to me & it’s the sole reason for any success I’ve had in life. Jesus has been my foundation & the rock that I’ve built my house {career/life) upon.
Also just the way I move & start each day with keeping him first & knocking out anything that would be considered hard or mundane in the first part of my day like working out & reading. Doing the hard things first makes the rest of my day so much easier & afterwards my mind is so much more clear & it’s easier to focus on my business & create in general.
Also repititon is key because if you’re going to get better at anything in life you MUST put in the work, At this point I’ve made so many sounds & beats it flows out of me naturally now & to me that’s the best place to create from because you’re no longer in a box of trying to impress anybody or the do’s & dont’s of it. It’s just you being & doing what you love with no limitations.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
So these days I spend most of my time as the lead sound designer for my business Sound Creative. I’ve been doing this for about 6 years now & it’s truly a blessing from God that just kind of fell in my lap. I was at a turning point in my life & career because I had gone through some serious health issues but man God is so faithful! Due to me being sick at the time I thought my career as a rapper was over & honestly I wanted something else I just didn’t know what. I remember hearing a voice in my head say “why don’t you create sounds for producers you can do it” & I was like man that would be cool but I completely blew it off because I thought you had to go to school for it or be a huge company like what I had seen. Well about a year later a guy from Atlanta gave me a shot on his site & the rest is history. My sound design career was born & I worked hard building up name until I realized I could have my own site & business so that’s what I eventually did.
What sets me apart from others I guess is my genuine passion to help others grow & evolve not only as a producer but as a person as well. I feel like most companies just want your money which is cool I get it this is business – but I can’t ever do something just for money, it has to be a win win for me. Was it easy? Hell no lol it wasn’t easy. I remember the first product I dropped got crickets after a few days but that was becuase nobody knew who I was. I didn’t let it discourage me though. I put my head down & kept working & started to build trust with people & that has led me to where I am now so don’t ever give up because there’s always blessings on the other side of pain & sacrifice.
One of the main lessons I’ve learned along the way is even if it doesn’t seem like things are changing just know that they are. Vincent Van gogh has a quote that goes “great things are done by a series of small things brought together”. So think about it in terms of working out. You dont just go to the gym one time & get buff right? No, you have to keep putting in the reps and it may feel like nothing is happening but when you turn around & look back at how far you have came after while – man it’s such a wonderful feeling.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probaly take them to the beach & bbq or something. I really don”t get out a lot so I’m not the best person to ask this lol. I spend a lot of time alone reading books & making music so I dont’ know man they might get bored with me😂. I’m on a mission so my purpose comes first in life, everything else is an accomodation. BUUUUT for the sake of the interview I’ll go ahead & dream with you a little bit lol. The art museum would be a cool place to check out & we can even go thrifting because I love finding vintage gems I can rock or resell on ebay so yay let’s make some money! We can hit up all the little food trucks where the tacos are on steriods & maybe catch a live show or go to a convention where there would be amazing speakers so we can leave wiser & better than we came & also meet a gang of new people who are like minded & fun to be around. We can also go to Wal-Mart & make random weird noises that freak people out but keep walking like nothing happened. Later we can meet up with the cool people we met at the convention & go to this crazy upscale party & have conversations where people can hear us talking about how we’re actually aliens that look like humans but even if we told the truth people would think we were lying so they’ll never really know lol. Then to see the looks on their faces as we walk away in supreme confidence would be the greatest joy of all! See I told you I’m the wrong person to ask lmao but yea that would be fun right?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow there’s been so many vessels along my journey & that’s all God but I’d like to start with my mother Debbie. She bought me my first ever guitar. It was an old maroon Washburn I found at the pawn shop. She believed in me from the start so thank you Mom I love you! But even before that my grandfather Robert Morales (RIP) was the first person to ever put a guitar in my hands. He’s actually in the Tejano music Hall of Fame & probably why music has been my outlet for most of my life. I guess it runs in my blood so BIG shoutout to him! Also my father for buying my second guitar & introducing me to so much great music at an early age.
As far as my peers I have to shout out my boy DJ Skeme. We used to be on the turntables all night acting like DJ Screw & he’s the first person to record me rapping. He used to be so critical of my rapping skills but it made me want to get better & I did so I always appreciated that. He was always in my corner pushing me & we had some great times together. Next to keep it short I’d like to shout out my boys Dirty, Soup Flame, C Whisky, Gatorade, David Brace, King Coreleone, Willstrumentals, Jourdan Boyle, Duece Tre’, Weso G, & man there’s so many more but I’d be here all day. But those guys helped me grow as an artist/producer along the way & always showed me love. I’m forever grateful so thank you!
