Meet Fiction Theory | DFW-based Alternative Indie Rock Band

We had the good fortune of connecting with Fiction Theory and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fiction, how do you think about risk?
How could you not do exactly that: take risks?

Our greatest fear is that our dream of putting our music into the world won’t happen. And the only way to guarantee that dream doesn’t happen is to not take risks. To not try. So if the worst happens by not risking anything, and risking even a little bit achieves our dream, then how is risk a bad thing? Risk is the pathway to success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our journey has certainly not been easy. Anything worth doing is filled with hardship and toil. One of our biggest challenges has been the overwhelming number of different things to accomplish; all of them feeling urgent. We’ve learned to communicate, plan, and prioritize our work so we make progress on just a few things. It’s important to say no (at least temporarily) to good future opportunities in the name of doing what’s best right now.

As a result of our business and personal focus, we’ve made a sound in our band that’s unique and refreshing to us as well as excellent and fun for everyone to listen to and enjoy. That’s come as a result of hundreds of hours working and living alongside one another, crafting and creating a creative being that’s bigger than each of us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d plan a day each for Fort Worth and for Dallas.

In Fort Worth, we’d start our day with some excellent coffee and breakfast at Buon Giorno. Then we’d head to the Fort Worth Zoo and spend our morning there. Lunch would be at M&O’s Station Grill before relaxing as we walk through the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. With some careful timing, we’d be first in line at Hatsuyuki Handroll Bar (they fill up very quickly) for the best sushi we have had the pleasure of eating. To conclude our day, we’d attend a Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra performance at Bass Hall followed by dessert at Cheesecake Factory right across the street and a walk around Sundance Square.

For Dallas, we’d start off at Houndstooth Coffee for coffee and breakfast (their chocolate or honey-butter breakfast pastries are to die for). Then we’re off to the Perot Museum for the morning! For lunch, we’d recommend we go to Gloria’s Latin Cuisine before heading over to the Dallas Aquarium and the Nasher Sculpture Center for the afternoon. For this last part, we’d have to probably bend the rules of time and space, but we’d go to Boulevardier for one of the best dinners one could wish for (dinners are kinda our thing) and then magically pop up back in downtown dallas to attend either a DSO performance at Meyerson Symphony Center or a show at Dallas Theater Center.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Each of us can honestly say our parents are towards the top of the list.

Whether funding our musical endeavors, encouraging our growth and development, or modeling the very musical excellence we want, our parents have all been crucial to each of our journeys.
