We had the good fortune of connecting with Takyria Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Takyria, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal for me is to have achieved every goal that I’ve set for myself not just some but all. I want to set the bar so high for my family that they never settle for a 9-5! I’m the first person in my family to actually have a business so I want to be able to speak that knowledge into them. I have the next 5 years of my life planned, I have to succeed. Professionally, I would like to be a motivational speaker for young women specifically and I want to own at least 7 properties. By the end of my career I want to be so successful that I’m able to give back to those who’ve supported me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an event planner and lash tech. I was 16 years old when I first started to practice lash extensions, so of course that came with many trying times. I didn’t have a mentor, a sponsor, or a business coach. All I had was myself, it was and still is one of the hardest things I’ve had to ever do. It’s been 4 years since I started my first business and it wasn’t easy, you just have to believe in yourself and never give up. You have to want it more then you say you do, get hungry! I love a good challenge, I actually love to overcome the impossible things. I stayed consistent, I started making short/long term goals for myself, each time I’d achieve a goal that pushed me closer to the bigger picture, I got more excited, once you get so close you eventually overcome everything you thought you couldn’t. I learned that having a business is like riding a roller coaster, once you get on you can’t stop until the ride is over no matter how unprepared you are! This chapter of my business is really rocky but I know I’ll get through it, the rides almost over. I want the world to know that I am a 20 year old serial entrepreneur and a hardworking young mother. I’ll never limit the things that I can do!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love mission taco here in St.Louis ! I enjoy the scenery, it’s calming. Some places that we’d really hang out at would be seafood places, hookah lounges, or even at my house. There’s honestly not to much in St. Louis to look forward to in my opinion, you just have to make the best of it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my daughter, who plays the biggest role in my success without her I honestly don’t think I would have the strive, the energy, or the time for my business. Also my mom and aunt, I’ve watched my mom work hard my entire life I can’t wait to retire her and watch her enjoy life. My aunt is actually a serial entrepreneur, I can relate to her on so many levels. She’s amazing inside and out, thank you for your support and encouraging ways.
