We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Dunbar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, what are you inspired by?
Happiness; So much of our lives are spent pursuing what will pay the bills and debts. That is necessary for our survival in this world, and it can overwhelm and destroy our ability to really live. It can prevent us from taking time to care for ourselves and be happy. Find happiness somehow. Make it fit into your life. Life’s too short not to.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love all sorts of yoga. What set me apart sometimes was that I wanted to be more relaxed and let loose. Yoga can be wonderfully intense and serious, and I felt it could also open up more for people looking to have a different experience. I love heavy metal; it’s intense in a different way. But, it can also be fun and wild. It often makes people want to let go. So, I’m a metalhead and this is my yoga. Metalhead Yoga, where we can do the type of yoga that’s right for you. It never has to be “perfect,” just perfect for your body.
My business is tiny and I may never be well-known, and that’s fine. Some think I only teach heavy metal yoga, but if that gets them asking questions, great! I just want people to have the chance to experience yoga and find their style.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the museums, that’s always the first thing I think of. Of course, BBQ is a must, assuming they eat meat. I would look into shows at Bass Hall and Casa Manana, or downtown Dallas. I also love Downtown Denton. If the State Fair is happening, absolutely. Rodeos and Billy Bob’s are also musts.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have many friends and family who said to do what you Iove. Sandra and Jenny at Indra’s Grace gave me support and a place to start learning. Saskia of Metal Yoga Bones showed me the world of heavy metal yoga. Pam of the Pilates and Yoga Training Center gave me a place to start teaching classic yoga. I wouldn’t get to do this without so many people giving me chances.
