We had the good fortune of connecting with JASON HORTON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JASON, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Freedom and Fulfillment! I was blessed to know my calling early on. I was also blessed to be able to sustain myself from that calling. So many musical artists, both seasoned and novice, can find themselves stuck in a corporate 9 to 5 literally giving their time for dimes. I wanted a networking organization that would present opportunities for education and work for musicians by musicians! We strive to become a one-stop shop for artists and patrons!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Like I said previously, I was blessed to know, cultivate, and work in my field since I was a kid. It has been amazingly exciting! The challenges have been great opportunities to grow and learn! My family was/is very supportive! I’ve performed at Carnegie Hall and I’ve performed on the street corner! Through every experience, I’ve learned that persistence is the key to success! “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” also the 7 P’s ” Prior Proper Preparation Prevents Piss-Poor Performance!” The Musician’s Sanctuary is an embodiment of the principles I grew up under! We are just people helping people to succeed and access opportunities for artistic cultivation and performance!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So, all of my friends and family know I’m vegan and I LOVE to eat! My favorite restaurants are Sankofa Kitchen, Goji Cafe, El Palote, Casa del Vegano, Best Thai, Nuno’s, and Cinnaholic! I love all of them! Outside of eating, I like to hang out with friends at the lakes around the city. I also love museums and church! My next visit will definitely be to the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Family! My late, beloved Mother, Rita Horton-Hendricks. She was such an inspirational force in my life along with my Grandmother, Willie Jean Horton and my Aunt Vickie Thomas. My Aunt Vickie, actually was the choir director at my church growing up. She was the one that made me sit at the piano and play! She then, enrolled me in private lessons and even took a few lessons with me! My step-father Kipland Hendricks, who bought one of my first keyboards! Also, I can’t forget my start at W. E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas! They all had a very lasting impact on my life!
