We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlen Escatel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marlen, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I have learned when you give people value, they will value you. People will trust and want what you have without selling anything because what you offer is valuable. Whether that’s sharing tips and tricks, how to tutorial or sharing ideas on your social media, this will attract your audience. Consistency is a key factor and major part of growth and success. Making time everyday to be interactive in my platform has helped me succeed.

What should our readers know about your business?
Think Sweet By Marlene is small business who caters to all chocolate lovers. I offer chocolate sweets and treats as well as teach classes on how to make chocolate confectionery items. I’ve always worked and had hobby on the side, that’s just who I am. I was home on maternity leave and was about a month away from returning to work. I decided to sell chocolate covered strawberries just see if this could get me out of work to stay home with baby. I was really impressed with the response I received and sold out on my first try. And then a lightbulb turned on, “maybe this is something that I can do long term”. Here I am about 2 years later now sharing how to make chocolate confectionery. I’m excited to share that I’m in the process of expanding and soon will be a supplier for treat makers and bakers. It hasn’t been easy, not at all specially with full time job and baby. I’ve had breakdowns and sleepless night trying to build my small business as I’m truly starting from scratch (no experience). But I’ve learned that if you work hard and don’t give up on those dreams, you will reach your goals. The people closest to you will be the last people to support you which means you have to keep going when you don’t receive the support you expected. No matter your background, history or statistics, you can make anything happen as long as you stay consistent and persevere. This is only the beginning!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely taking my best friend to the stockyard for some good old BBQ and drinks. We would have to make a drive to Dallas and visit the Dallas Zoo, Dallas Arboretum as well as the Reunion Towers. We would have to have some dinner at The Rustic and then a stroll along Klyde Warren Park. Before she leaves I would take her to see a show at Winspear Opera House.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My small business has evolved and I couldn’t do it without the support of Christine Brungard Ibarra also known as Cakepopbox on IG. She has not only helped me with my insecurities but has pushed me to do what I want to do in my small business. I trust her so much and truly know that she is a big part of my success this far.
