We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Weedon Palazzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve never found the perfect work/life balance. What has worked for me has been to think of things as a “season.” For instance, this season is summer (when my kids are home from school) and baseball season (when we are constantly at the ball field.) What can I do in this season? I don’t have the time for uninterrupted, focused writing. But I can make social media videos on my phone from the car or jot down creative ideas for when the kids get back to school.

For moms of young children, work/life balance really doesn’t exist “in this season.” Wait until they are older.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I spent most of my career as an actor and shoe model in New York City. After having my first son, I felt very “fish out of water” with the other moms in my neighborhood. I wrote a web series, “Slummy Mummy” about that. “Slummy Mummy” played at film festivals (and even won some!), where I met other parents who worked in film.

MomCave began when three moms and a dad noticed a lack of authentic programming for parents. Babies on TV shows sit silently. Moms on YouTube networks look like they stepped out of Real Housewives. And don’t even get us started on Pinterest Moms! We wanted to create shows about something we could really relate to–and that is the difficult and humorous moments of parenting. Because, in our opinion, those moms that seem to have it all together must be lying.

I’m the creator (and producer, editor, writer, actress) of MomCaveTV.com. It’s been a dream come true to have our web series honored with film festivals and awards. And I’ve found a new appreciation for maternity style on the red carpet! (It’s all about the right shoes…)

As MomCave expands, I love bringing on creative moms to collaborate and write or produce for us!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite part of NYC is that is always changing. I take the opportunity to walk whenever I can. There’s always a new shop or restaurant to check out. I love the Highline and Madison Square Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I had a few teachers whose belief in me really stuck with me, as far as having confidence about writing. My mother and my husband both give me the feeling that I can attempt anything… I may not succeed, but I can attempt!
