We had the good fortune of connecting with Ross Cardona and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ross, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Not giving up is the most difficult imo, making the choice to keep going no matter what.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a duo act, combined we have 20 years of djing in the Dallas rave scene, that in itself is incredible. We both have a love for house music, which we both separately spun at multiple after hours clubs and events. Now we have have a love for weird experimental bass music. As we joined forces and focused on our weird bass sound, it started to make waves more and more. it was exactly what the underground rave scene needed. Now Dallas has events curated with these artists we have been listening to, looking up to, and being inspired by for over 6 years! As the years have passed, the weird bass music scene has come and is here to stay in Dallas, Wasubii will always be a house hold name here in the big D. Peyton and I met at a friends outside camping event. We both were djing at said event. We both liked what each other played. We both were into this weird dubstep bass, experimental dark stuff. After meeting, we had this Thursday event called Red Goose House Party, We played one time as a b2b, because of our similar sound. It seemed to get really good responses. So we come over to my house one night and we start djing, going back to back. Things just started to click and flow. It just seemed natural. After that we kept getting booked as a b2b, which was cool. One day, we sat down and came up with Wasubii. It’s a play on words with food, “wasabi” and bass music. The two I’s for the two people, Peyton and I.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First off, if you were in our home town of Fort Worth, you would have to try my fathers tacos. He owns Tacos Del Norte. You would also have to stop by our family’s 91 year old tortilla and chip factory called Cardona Foods. We supply many big chains around the state of Texas. If you were looking for a fun night of electronic music and dancing DFW Rave Fam hosts The Move. We have many flow artist around the DFW come to spin. We also have vendors and a great line up of DJs. If you were here on a Sunday, I would recommend our house Sun-Daze at the Whiskey Garden. Also hosted by DFW Rave Fam. If you were in Dallas, I would recommend the long standing Drum Djam at Green Elephant.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Family first, they definitely are and always have been supportive. Maybe a little unsure of how things would go in the beginning, but supportive nonetheless. Peyton and I are very grateful of their acceptance. We also would like it thank all the friends that pushed us to keep going and doing what We love. I also would like to say that my beloved and beautiful smart and down for me is Kourtney Lynn Nevins my girlfriend, my Rock, she has really supported everything and helped me is so many ways, I can’t thank her enough for just being the one to show me new and old music and to help make this vision and dream work. Peyton’s girlfriend Tiffany has supported us from the beginning and has seen us through pretty much every gig. She’s very supportive as well. Also for all the collectives in the DFW who have shown us tremendous support and continue to. Especially DFW Rave Fam. Our Dallas scene.
