We had the good fortune of connecting with Breaunna Ellison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breaunna, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of Per Usual started quite funny actually. I honestly had thought about the beauty and individual personalities in all of my friends, I seen how genuine, thoughtful, & completely themselves they were. I simply said that’s their “Per Usual” and that was it! I thought of the statement “Per Usual” to be a term that expresses someone’s own unique qualities. After that, I curious what that statement would look like on a hat. I asked around for a logo designer to put my idea in place. The first apparel that I purchased for my brand was five snapback hats. Seeing it in person inspired me to make this my brand & a way to promote positive qualities in people.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My day-to-day job is a Claim Specialist for auto insurance. I take care of our customers and specifically help them with the injuries that they have from their accident. I am very proud of the work do, I enjoy that I am the point of contact to provide comfort and relief for those who find themself in an unfortunate position. I will not say that it has been an easy road. Some accidents can be challenging to work, as you have to discuss with family members details about serious and sometimes fatal injuries. I have worked from an entry-level associate handling tasks as a team; to now owning all my files and making ethical decisions. My job has made me so grateful for seeing those “Made it home” text messages from my family and friends. Even though I am very careful in everything I do, my job has taught me that an accident can happen at any time, and we need to let our loved ones know how we feel and appreciate them every day. This has made me a positive and humbled person which shows in my brand. Per Usual promotes other brands and encourages others to find their niche too, if it has not been found already.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thinking about this question makes me laugh because that is exactly what we would be doing for the whole weekend. I am a big planner, so prior to arrival I would already them what they should be wearing. First, I would pick them up from the airport and immediately go to a sports bar and have a couple of drinks to catch up on what’s been going on in our lives, honestly, that would probably be the last spot of the day, watching a game or some sort of competitive event. Saturday & Sunday will most likely be a party fest. We enjoy socialize and listen to music. We would go to a day party and dances the day away, make a couple of connections on the way since we like to network. At night, we’ll relax our dancing shoes at the hookah lounge. The whole weekend enjoying each other’s company in conversation discussing positive moves for our business and how to continue to grow as individuals.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
