We had the good fortune of connecting with Nodjinaissem Beasnael and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nodjinaissem, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to turn my passion into a vision that will turn into reality. I told myself that starting my own business would give me the freedom to run my own company and become my own boss. I get to make my own decision and create job opportunities for others. Don’t get me wrong, owning your own business also comes with a lot of responsibilities and discipline, but I mastered that in the past while I worked in corporate America. I decided to apply my leadership skills and business knowledge and take action in order to succeed.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I learned the art of Cornrows, Micro-braiding, Thread-weaving, braiding hair etc.. at the young age of 8 by watching my cousins and professional Braiders in Africa. I am originally from Ndjamena,Tchad(Africa) and grew up Accra, Ghana(Africa) I learned English there while attending a French private school (Ecole Francaise D’Accra). What sets us apart is the will to see others grow, educate them and be a mentor to those who want to start something of their own as we build relationships and not just make a sale.
I have over 25 years of experience in the hair and beauty Industry. I also have my roots in Fashion and Jewelry design that allow me to bring a unique artistic master-plan together and allow my client’s inner self to shine through. I don’t just do hair or sell extensions, I actually have one on one’s and teach my clients what to do, how to grow their natural hair and recommend natural herbal combinations of moisturizers to help grow their hair.
I am most proud of achieving my goal and creating a company which focuses on building relationships and putting smiles on my client’s faces. I had a vision to create a hair Brand “NAIIZ HAIR” in order to cater to women battling Lupus, Cancer and other forms of hair loss including Alopecia, which became reality. By providing natural-looking wigs and hair pieces to my clients, I noticed their self-esteem rising and confidence boosted to the roof!! We are very focused on building relationships and letting our clients know that they are very valuable.
We got to where we are today with a lot of hard work, sleepless nights, teamwork and dedication. Starting up and running a business was not easy but we are still growing and running. It required, real passion, a crazy drive, tenacity, consistent and continuous planning, marketing, advertising, raising capital and staying dedicated.
Our challenges were not hiring help initially, then finding and putting together the right team changed a lot for us. My mistake was trying to do it all alone until I learned to delegate, invest in myself daily and be innovative. Best decision I ever made to help my company grow.
NAIIZ HAIR is a small business and online store. We offer extensions, Wigs, Mink Lashes, Hot Tools and Hair accessories to a multitude of clients including Licensed Stylists and Beauty Supply Owners. Apart from our online service, we are a mobile styling company aswell that offers makeup application, styling and Fashion consulting. Due to our new normal, we have put a hold on our mobile services until further notice and operate strictly online for now(social media, Zoom etc…) in spite of the pandemic we are supper grateful to our clients who remained faithful and still shopped on line. Our wigs and bundles sales exceeded our expectations even during the stay at home orders. We received the most wig orders from different states and locally, then new stylist/wig makers ordered our bundles to make wigs from home. We are super grateful for the loyalty and growth. No complaints, lots of gratitude and positivity!
We love to give back and let our customers around the globe know they are valuable. We are working on some new products and additions to our Brand (Customers have been begging for hair products), surprises, gifts with purchase to launch and reward our lucky customers! Stay tuned for more…. Check back with us soon!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course! When my friends & family visit the area, I love to show them around and take them to the Dallas Museum of Arts, The Dallas/Fort Worth Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Forth Worth Stock Yards, Katy Trail(Parks for Downtown Dallas. (We would have a painting/drawing party, make some jewelry, put together a mini Fashion show). After the fun comes the food! I love tasting food from all around the world! I can’t list all the restaurants but here are a few: soul food “Ms. Mary’s Southern Kitchen”, “Rosako’s Soulfood and BBQ”, “Sweet Georgia Brown”, “Soul 2 Soul”
exotic restaurants “The Island Spot”(Jamaican food), “Blaze Brazilian Steakhouse”, “African pride Food and kitchen”, “Taste Afrik”, “Africa Fusion” etc…) .”Andalous Mediterranean Grill”, seafood boils (“The Boiling Crab”, “Rocking Crab”, “Red Crab”, “The Kickin Crab”, etc…), Sushi (“Benihana”, “The Blue Fish at Toyota Music Factory”, “Go Fish Poke” etc…), “The Melting Pot” and so many more but I will run out of space, lol so I will stop here….
Due to our new normal, we take advantage of “Door-dash”, “Uber Eats” etc… and enjoy the experience of eating out but at home, until things open up completely again! Health and Safety first!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can truly say that my success and what I achieved in life today has a lot to do with my up-bringing, prayers, efforts, discipline, love, support, mentorship and the consistent lifetime encouragement of my parents(Sem & Eunice). My dad (Pastor Sem )was a diplomat then he went to Theological seminary, became a Pastor and published writer(“The Plagues of Friendship” and other books) and my mother (Eunice, my Queen ) is nurse and a serial entrepreneur. I watched both of them as I was growing up working hard to make sure my siblings and I were comfortable, educated and healthy . I picked their brains, asked them a Gazillion questions, listened , took notes, acquired knowledge and learned a lot of great teachings and skill-sets from them that I applied as well. They thought my four siblings “Nathalie, Njekwa, Dee , Josue” and Myself to adopt an entrepreneur mindset and soar in life. They both lived for us and made the necessary sacrifices for us to become successful. No shortcuts, hardword, efficiency and Integrity. I am also very grateful and proud of my son “Nodji” who is a musician and has been my ROCK and inspiration for my drive. He will be celebrating a Birthday this June! He is my pride and Joy, my heart and my legacy. I stay focused and accomplish my goals in order to make sure I do right by him and leave him a great Legacy someday.
I also want to give credit and dedicate a Shoutout to my AMAZING Team that has been super supportive and they all deserve a lot of recognition! I want to recognize our amazing Brand Ambassador “Zyria Johnson” @black__elegance_ for always going ABOVE & BEYOND to represent our brand. Words are not enough to express our gratitute! We are also super fortunate and eternally grateful for finding one of the BEST Brand Managers “Yazmine Ismile”@ismiledesigns; She always gets the job done efficiently and with pure excellence before I can even utter a word!! I most definitely want to recognize my faithful “Naiiz Hair Models, NAIIZBABES” that have been with us since DAY ONE: ” Dee Beasnael, Nathalie Beasnael @ladydene, Sylvie Beasnael, Jocelyn Carter, Khai Meeks, Zyria, Johnson, Nyla Rice, Tamaya Reese, Prenticia Aubrey” for your loyalty and dedication. I am thankful for Amy, Kevin, Jessie, Christina and Monica for always making sure our customers get their shipments on time from our warehouses and dropshipping departments.
I would not be successful without my family, team and customers. I am very grateful for you all and looking forward to a greater 2021 and more!!
