We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Bryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
At the end of my career, all I want, is to look back and be proud of the art I was able to create. Life is so fleeting; the last thing I want to do is get to the end and realized I wasted all of my time and energy on the wrong things. I feel like with photography, you never really retire, you just find more subjects and expand your craft. In this current stage of business, I want to keep growing my clientele and portfolio, but not at the expense of not enjoying what I do and to never get complacent with the same monotonous product. Professionally, by the end of my career, I want to be able to say that I tried it all, I educated myself as much as possible, I never gave up on the things I was passionate about, and I always tried to evolve and grow. I never want to stop maturing and developing my craft.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My “job” is portrait photography. I have the opportunity to photography couples, families, and all types of people around the DFW metroplex and beyond. My hobby photography, however, is nature and street photography. Getting to take photos and offer an extension of how I see the people and places around me is a dream come true. I was gifted a camera from my husband, and decided to take a community college course to get more familiarized with it. Once I learned what I could do through a camera lens, I rerouted my whole life to keep chasing this passion.
I’ve ebbed and flowed through my “style” and I’ve had to fight some on and off imposter syndrome, but I’m so blessed with the support from my family and friends who are constantly reaffirming me.
I’ve learned along the way, that investing in yourself is always a smart decision. Whether it’s monetarily or just mentally, believing in yourself and growing your passions is always beneficial.
I want the world to look at my work and think “this girl really loves what she does”. I obviously want people to like what I do, but I’m learning that it’s so important that I like what I’m doing first. When you’re passionate about your craft, other people will see that and hopefully love it right back.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beauty of Dallas is its food scene. I would take my out of town friends to my favorites: Campisi’s, Torchy’s, White Rock Coffee, Shady’s, Manny’s, Aw shucks, Lovers Pizza & Pasta, Hong Kong Restaurant, and Snuffers. I love walking through Bishop Arts, Klyde Warren, and Deep Ellum. A good way to kill time is a movie at Alamo Draft House and walking through the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Museum of Arts. For night life, one of my only stops has to be at The Free Man for some live Jazz music and authentic Cajun food!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t even own my current camera setup if it wasn’t for the support of my husband, Jake. Since June of 2020, we’ve start two business together and re-invested in our education. Jake sees the good things in people and finds ways to support and foster them. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without his unwavering belief in me and his dedication to our success.
