We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtnie Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtnie, why did you pursue a creative career?
Actually I didn’t mean to have a creative career. Growing up, and even through the Master’s program I was dead set on being a Counselor. It was during my Master’s program, that I decided to try pottery. After one class I was hooked. Now here I am 3 years later selling my art, making it into magazines, and creating my own website!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art will always be unique. I make every piece by hand letting the clay decide what it becomes. I embrace mistakes and flaws, because I find those humanly errors beautiful. MY fastest selling piece was a three time fail that I adapted to embrace those mishaps along the way. In my art I learned to accept my mistakes, and find ways to become greater than before. My brand is one hundred percent me, flaws and all. I do my best no to filter my true self in order to share my bright soul with others.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well we would definitely be getting I to all sorts of adventures from random day trips to near by state parks, all the way to a night at the casino. Some of my favorite things to do include hiking, geocaching, paddle boarding, random drives with loud music, and outdoor markets.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout out goes to every person who encouraged me to value my pottery. This past year was the first time I put a price tag on my work. If it wasn’t for all the encouragement and confidence in my art, I would not be where I am right now. So I want to thank everyone who built me up, helping me to spread my joys and passion with the world.
