We had the good fortune of connecting with Krishna and Rishub Madhav and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krishna and Rishub, why did you pursue a creative career?
A lot of messages relating to the environment are often cynical or bland and they don’t effectively convey the importance of the issue while also persuading the audience to take action. We decided to take a more creative avenue in publicizing our message about water use and conservation so that we could engage the audience and instill a stronger call to action.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
(Rishub) I started my film career with the broadcast class in my middle school. Someone who is traditionally introverted, I had some challenges when developing my on screen speaking ability. However, I also am trained in theater and this helped me develop my confidence and artistic eye.
(Krishna)
I haven’t had any formal training in film so most of what I do is just what I’ve been able to learn from YouTube. It was definitely difficult at first to navigate the more complex film and editing software without knowing how to use it. But after some practice and a lot of testing, I’ve become much better.
I think what sets use apart is the dynamic we have in creating these films. It’s a balance of creativity, informational knowledge, and understanding your audience and I think as youth, we have a good understanding of the next generation that will be at the forefront of preserving our environment.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is one of our primary destinations to enjoy in Plano. We frequently go on hikes with friends and family and it’s a great place to enjoy nature without the usual distractions. It has a lot of space for sports as well and we like to play football, kickball, and soccer.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to recognize the One Earth Film Festival for all the work they do in organizing the youth film festival and elevating young and local voices across the nation to bring to light the real problems with our environment. Young voices are often dismissed on national platforms or in the media but the work the One Earth Film Festival has done to recognize students and their unique experiences is astounding. Without their dedication, we would have never been able to share our work with so many others.
