We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany McMahon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I originally started my page in college for fun to give advice and share my favorite things and places. I realized how passionate I was when it came to being creative. I loved designing, writing, creating and exploring. I graduated college and went into Sales at a Consulting firm before leaving that to pursue a full time job in social media and marketing for a local instagram page. This change has made me SO happy and has just shown me how important it is to be passionate about your work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I graduated with a degree in Marketing, Public Relations and Sales. I knew I wanted to have a business degree but tried to make it as “creative” as possible. I did internships at Fortune 500 companies and ended up at a Big 4 Consulting Firm after graduation. I was great at what I did, I loved my team but there was always something missing.

I was pursuing my blog on the side and it really was my creative outlet. I was so excited to get off my computer after 9 hours to go explore, take photos, edit and write. This side gig ended up landing me my dream job at Dallas Love List where I now am a Social Media Marketing Manager. I live eat and breathe social media and have never been more happy. I still have my page and am learning so much to help it grow!

I think what sets me apart is the time I spent in corporate America. I learned the balance of doing the day to day grind while also making time for what I loved. I have the best of both worlds now 🙂

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are a few places I ALWAYS take guests when they come to town. To start off, we go to Hudson House for 1/2 off martinis, oysters and their burger. I absolutely love their martinis and you can’t beat their Happy Hour prices. PLUS they have it every single day! (the best when you have people in town over the weekend) A rooftop is another must when people are in town. I am all about a rooftop view and great cocktails. HG SPLY in Lower Greenville is a favorite of mine. The food is incredible and I love the vibe of their rooftop with a Dallas skyline view. Plus while you’re in Lower Greenville there’s a few shops and places to check out too!
If my girlfriends are in town I am taking them to Sixty Vines and sitting in the green house. It is one of the most beautiful spots! Plus 60 wines on tap? Yes Please!
If we are looking for a fun photo op I love the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. And then we can spend an afternoon boutique shopping in Bishop Arts. Paradiso’s patio is gorgeous for an app and drink!
I love a good walk on the Katy Trail to take them to other spots in town- Chelsea Corner for brunch or down to Foxtrot for some coffee- it is such a fun way to get around Dallas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
100% my friends and family. When I mentioned that I wanted to start a blog and new Instagram page my friends were sitting on the couch waiting to hit “follow”. They are always hyping me up and letting me know how proud they are of my page. My parents and sister have helped me take 100s of photos. My boyfriend Alec comes along to every dinner and event and never says no when I ask for “one more” picture. He is my number 1 fan for sure.
