We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendell Malone II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendell, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe I always had a different approach to life than others. Especially around the company I kept prior to making my brand. Before creating my brand I was a regular 9 to 5 worker (nothing against that) but I always knew I could do more than the normal which in a way drove me crazy. Once I was given the opportunity to create my brand I put all my energy, time & passion into it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called Malone Haircare & Grooming. Over the years I’ve always had a routine taking care of my body & facial hair. I’m proud of this decision because honestly if I didn’t start when I did I wouldn’t even started it at all. It wasn’t easy at first, I brought the idea of my brand to a few friends and I got the same response, “You should wait.” or “Are you sure it’ll be good”. At the day of the day you have to take those risks to prosper. Regardless what your people may say is good or bad you have to do it for yourself. I want the world to know about my story is I took a chance on something I’m passionate about, I ran with my idea & I’m continuing to do what’s necessary to grow this brand/myself it whatever I want it to be. Anybody can do it all you have to do is believe in yourself, bet on yourself & double down!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
iFly for indoor skydiving (went for my birthday & LOVED IT), Biscuit bar for breakfast/brunch, Andretti’s for go kart racing & gaming, Deep Ellum for a night out, North Park Mall for shopping & OMG Tacos/Greenville Ave Pizza Company for food

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ll like to dedicate this shoutout to my lady Shardae & my god mom Nicole. Honestly without them I probably wouldn’t even started this brand. They put the “battery in my back” to pursue my entrepreneurship dreams!!
