We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Bahamundi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have a passion for endurance sports along with a desire to help people exceed in those sports. I know first hand how daunting it can be to show up to a group ride or run, to your first event or even to register for an event.

By starting this business, I wanted to show that getting started in endurance sports doesn’t have to be intimidating. We all started somewhere and by telling those stories, others can see that the athlete who is 5 years into these sports didn’t magically appear. There was a lot that went into making the decisions to get started.

I also wanted to provide a platform for athletes that I did not see represented in media or at the start lines. Women, people of color, disabled of physically challenged and LGBTQ+ athlete will have an opportunity to tell their story on our pages and on our website. This will provide inspiration and motivation for others to see and say to themselves: if they can do it, so can I.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been working in media, in some capacity, since I graduated college. I have been a media buyer, planner, salesperson and Vice President of a company in this space.

Seeing the 360* view of how advertising and marketing in various platforms works has provided me the ability to think critically about what solutions we can offer our clients, what solutions will not work for them and in the end keep our focus on our reader.

Satisfying our readers needs will lead to us satisfying our advertiser / partners needs as well as the company’s needs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I hope my best friend enjoys swimming, riding and running because there would be a lot of that in this week long trip.

We would swim in Lake Grapevine, ride our bikes in the Argyle and Bartonville areas (see all the animals along the way) and run at Erwin Park and on the north shore of Lake Grapevine.

We would be sure to eat at 7 Mile in Lewisville for brunch after working out, along with getting pizza on Friday night from Tony’s Pizza in The Colony.

I’d also take them to Irving and visit the Toyota Music Factory for food and the events that take place there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The list is long and I’ll undoubtedly leave people off but I think these are the first people that come to mind:

Bill Schroeder – Owner of TravelHost. He encouraged me to start the business and be an entrepreneur. He provided insight about running a multi-media platform that included print, digital and social. His mentorship on the little things has helped me tremendously.

Al Schoenberg – General Manager of TravelHost. Al’s support for my vision had been phenomenal. He listens to my ideas and provides insight into why or why they won’t work. Maybe most importantly, during the stressful times he makes me laugh.

Kristina Witmer – Owner of Witmer Group. Her ability to take my vision and turn it into a website that is beyond my vision cannot be applauded enough. Without her the website you see today would still be only one page.

Amanda Loudin – Freelance Journalist. Amanda was the first person I called to ask about starting this business and this magazine. Her insight into the world of journalism in endurance sports inspired the Vision and Mission we have at Run•Tri•Bike.

Shark Tank – Yes, the show. Watching that show and seeing entrepreneurs take risk and chance was everything I needed to see to take the leap.
