Meet Brittany Reed | Independent Hairstylist & Salon Suite Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance has been my biggest personal struggle over the course of my career. I have always been a workaholic and overachiever, even in my first jobs as a teenager. In the beginning of my career I was always hustling. I always had that “yes” mentality and never turned down work. But the longer you’re in this industry, the more tired your body gets. You start to realize that not being able to say no leads to a lack of boundaries with your clients and within your business as a whole, especially when you work for yourself. It’s been a long road changing business my structure, limiting and delegating work and creating boundaries with myself. “Work smarter, not harder” has become my motto over the past few years and I can finally say that I feel like I finally have the boundaries and work life balance that I need to live my best life.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think the biggest notable difference at Mane Rebels is that it’s not all about the hair. Yes, I do hair but that’s really not all that special. Dallas County alone has over 30,000 cosmetologists and barbers and we are all capable of mastering a hairstyle. I’ve learned along the way that people just want to feel heard and valued so my business has always been about connection, serving and educating FIRST. Good hair is just the cherry on top. Building a clientele based on connection is slow but it is certainly steady and I believe that I can attribute a lot of my success to this way of doing business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First things first, we’re sitting on all the patios. No matter what the occasion or time of day- Dallas has a patio for that and it’s a vibe that’s unmatched by any other city in my opinion. A few of my favorite other local things to do include roaming the Dallas Museum of Art, shopping local boutiques, hanging out at White Rock Lake and going out dancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It takes a village of support to run a business and stay sane. My biggest support system is my partner, Lexi. She’s the person I vent to, bounce ideas off and look to for support in my day to day life. I’ve have also been very intentional throughout my career to surround myself with other professionals who I can learn from and grow with. I’m super grateful for stylists who have offered me mentorship and I always try to pay it forward where I can.
