Meet Austin Roberson | Menswear Expert at The Man’s Shop

We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Roberson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by many things. The source of that comes from many different outlets. Whether that be a song, a “hot” color, or an intriguing passerby that catches my eye. I try to see things from new fresh perspectives often so I keep my eyes and ears open. I want to try new things and possibly awaken a new excitement that I didn’t even realize that was there. Now with these new discoveries, there needs to be an application that goes with them because if you don’t apply or share your inspiration, you can potentially rob someone else of an unexpected joy I was talking with a lovely lady the other day and she asked me if I looked up at the clouds today and watched the sunset. It was such a simple delight to have a moment of calm and reflection to be reminded of the beauty in nature that I forget is always in front of me if I simply look intentionally for it. She herself stated that she didn’t want to go through life forgetting to look up at the clouds. Had she not shared this with me, I would have never even thought about looking up That spoke to be because I need to be reminded to periodically stop, breathe, and embrace the forgotten beauty that is always around me. Plus, Texas sunsets are the best that there is. Just look at how all of the pinks, blues, yellows, and purples all effortlessly blend together in a one of a kind, never to be seen again masterpiece. Inspiration can hit at anytime if you’re open to it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think that “the old way” is how things need to be done. A bright smile, firm handshake, and a studied professional seems like a unicorn; and we happen to have three here at the shop. I cannot express how much I enjoy what I do. I work at shop that’s been around since 1970. It’s not often that brands have that heritage because fewer and fewer are still able to stay relevant. What I love about working in a men’s shop is the personal relationship that you’re able to curate with clients. Plenty of online brands are able to ship directly to customer and they can shop at home. Convivence it key in our industry and especially service. Service is first and paramount. Here’s when I think quality men’s stores beat online. We can shake your hand. We remember your anniversary. We go above and beyond to get what you need for a last minute event. We to represent you first, serve your needs, and add value through building a quality relationship. 2020 taught us how to adjust to how men shop nowadays so we expanded into an online presence, but we still want people to come in and get the full experience that a website cannot offer. We set our shop up to feel like a second home, where guys can come in, have a drink, chop it up about cars, sports, or whatever their hobbies may be, and then show them items that put a smile on their face.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Fort Worth and the underrated culture that it has to offer. I live near the arts district and try to take advantage of that often. The Kimbell, Amon Carter, and The Modern are great places to fine new inspiration and bath in the glory os such amazing architecture. I’m a cigar aficionado and try to frequent Silver Leaf Cigar Lounge as often as possible. They service is never lacking, they always have great drinks, and a better selection of cigars. I love the polished elegant feel of the lounge, and yet it still feels like Cheers where they remember your name and know what you like. I like hidden gems and I recently discovered Casablanca coffee tucked up near the backside of downtown. Great selection of coffee and it has so much charm. I do love getting my boot scootin’ boogie on so you can’t go to Fort Worth and not visit Billy Bob’s and spin a pretty lady out on the dance floor. When it comes to food, the city is your oyster. I love Blue Sushi and especially their seaweed salad. Make sure you add Tako. Trust me. It’ll surprise you. An evening stroll on the Trinity Trails will alwasy help clear even the cloudiest of minds. I also have become a fan of a Gelato shop near Clearfork; but I cannot remember it’s name.
