We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrian Bush and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darrian, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
At the time I was in a really dark place in my life: my relationship, my career, my health and several other things. At the time I wasn’t living up to my full potential and life put me in a place where I didn’t have a choice to turn my life around. Jokingly Boss up and Bounce was created but it quickly became a lifestyle. With Boss Up and Bounce, I wanted to uplift, encourage and empower others that were going through different hardships no matter what it was. I like to encourage everyone that it’s okay to do what’s best for you and not feel about it. We sometimes get into certain situations because we tend to put others before ourselves. Boss up and Bounce is now a clothing line but I would like to expand and go into a different direction. I would like to make the company an academy; where we are offering empowerment events, community service projects and classes where we are helping the youth prepare for the real world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently a full-time employee with Asurion working in Human Resources. I work in our grant program where we provide assistance for our employees. Working with this company and being able to help others has been rewarding. It feels good inside when people tell me how thankful they’re for me helping them. It’s a blessing to be a blessing to others. Working full-time and being an entrepreneur has it ups and downs, also can be draining but the work you put in is what you get out. Today I am where am because of God, hard work, dedication, and not being afraid to take those risk on getting ahead in life. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learned so much as a business owner and also as an individual. I kept my faith in God and had to overcome the fear of failing. What got me through those challenges are daily positive affirmations and also the encouragement and motivation that I receive from my support system.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m still fairly new to my area and not familiar with a lot of hot spots. If my best friend came to visit we would be experiencing a lot of new things together here. But I would definitely take her downtown Nashville where they’re truly expanding. We would definitely go down to Broadway where there are several bars, clubs, and restaurants. My best friend is a full time teacher and entrepreneur as well ,so we would definitely go for a spa day and nail date.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my support system. Without them I don’t think I would’ve made it this far. They support me and push me daily to be the best version of myself and to never give up no matter how hard it gets. I would also like to shoutout my business mentor Shalana, founder of Shalay Luxury Box. For sometime I felt unmotivated and uninspired but she has helped me get back on track and also help me rebrand my company.
