We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Mayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
It’s all about resiliency vs. resistance. When something is meant for you, it will just flow. This does not mean that it will be easy, but you will be able to sit down and problem solve when things get tough. You will see forward movement no matter how small. Sometimes, we overlook progress because we have one bad day, month, or even year! We let the chaos cloud our vision. There is not enough time spent recognizing “small victories” I like to call them. On the contrary, when its time to re-strategize, you will feel much resistance no matter what you do, It’s a very thin line and can be hard to differentiate. That’s why time spent in meditation everyday in which you identify and celebrate daily progress is essential.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Helping Hands Community Support Services is a community- based behavioral health program. We pride ourselves on being a reflection of the community we serve and commit ourselves to six values; excellence, diversity, integrity, stewardship, accountability, and innovation. This year we are most proud of our staff members willingness to adapt to a new way of doing things after the COVID-19 pandemic shook the world. Our staff members continue to show dedication to our clients and find new, more innovative ways of supporting families. I’m sure many businesses can relate to experiencing a new set of problems in 2020 due to the pandemic. Helping Hands continues to overcome these problems due to dedication and leadership starting at the highest level. We are committed to being solving problems by listening to the needs of our community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take would take my best friend out to experience the best tacos and bbq Dallas has to offer. We would go to Deep Ellum and visit Revolver Taco (They have a duck taco which is amazing), and Pecan Lodge. We would visit Klyde Warren Park and maybe catch a free yoga class. We would ride scooters around town, stopping to admire the beautiful architecture. We would visit the Dallas World Aquarium and maybe even check out a gun range or two!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to acknowledge the Fort Worth Independent School District. Administrators across many school campuses in Ft. Worth ISD have assisted with bridging the gap by making mental health more accessible to the community. They have spent much time meeting with and collaborating with Helping Hands to ensure staff members and families are supported as needed.
