We had the good fortune of connecting with Lane Kuntz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lane, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My son developed severe eczema about 6 months after birth. We went to countless specialists – tried shots, creams, prescriptions, detergent changes, food changes, resulting in minimal difference. Having worked in the dermatology field for ten years, I was beyond exasperated with not being able to resolve this terribly painful, disruptive and humiliating condition for him. After research and countless attempts, we finally found something to help – gentle exfoliation via sugar and deep moisturization via unrefined coconut oil and sweet almond oil delivered through a carefully crafted scrub. Almost 4 years ago, at the encouragement of family and friends, I brought this formula to market, offering it in a variety of scents – 19 to be exact – and now have a strong customer base of both skin challenged (eczema, psoriasis, and chronic dry skin sufferers) and healthy skin (those simply looking for calming, natural, great smelling products that exfoliate and moisturize all in one!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
By weekday, I’m an advertising group account director with 20 years of experience on the pharmaceutical, consumer products and medical device side. By weekend, I’m the proud owner and operator of my LLC, Sugar Momma Scrubs. The journey hasn’t been easy. It’s a challenge to make the time to work on my side business, but I am constantly motivated but the care and love for my customers – those who have tried my products and continue to tout their benefits for problematic skin that is finally seeing improvement… or pampering after a long day…. or simply bringing moisture and glow to skin. My story is simple. I couldn’t find what my son needed on the market. So I made it. And am continually excited to share it with others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh how this answer has changed due to our current situation – this pandemic. My COVID-19 safe answer (and always a good option, pandemic or not) is the Trinity River trail system. Grab your shoes, hit the trails and then grab a bite or a drink on any of the many restaurants and bars along the trail system! People watching, dog petting, being outdoors, and enjoying all that FW has to offer – it can’t get much better than that!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My son is the center of this story. His need coupled with my passion to find a solution started it all.
