Meet Catie Keck and Mary Beavers: Owners of Pot & Kettle

We had the good fortune of connecting with Catie Keck and Mary Beavers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catie Keck and Mary Beavers, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The initial spark: we both wanted to spend time in a place that didn’t exist. Our fantasy cozy hangout spot wasn’t anywhere to be found. That’s when we started thinking about creating that space for not just ourselves, but other like-minded people. Beyond that, we had similar interests, goals, and ideas about blending food and community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We started Pot & Kettle late last year and are still in the beginning stages of this small business journey. We are excited about the potential of someday having a brick and mortar cafe where we can build the community and environment we long for. We both have experience working in and helping to build small businesses which helped hone our own business ambitions. As for challenges, the biggest one so far has been the pandemic. The timeline and plans we had for our business went out the window when lockdowns began, but we are rolling with the punches and figuring out what we can do within current limitations. The heart of Pot & Kettle is really about caring for people. We want our business to evoke comfort and connection and a spirit of hospitality whether that is through our food, meaningful conversations, or the community we build.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love supporting local and small businesses in Fort Worth like the following: Race Street Coffee – the coffee is delicious, the people are amazing, and the music is always top notch The Japanese Garden at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is beautiful especially in the fall and spring. Mariachi’s Dine In has amazing pastor tacos and lots of vegan options too Hunt for treasures at the Montgomery Street Antique Mall Head to Blackland Distillery for the best old-fashioned in Ft Worth The best BBQ is at Panther City BBQ. Try the loaded elotes and grab Bloody Mary at Republic Street Bar Finish up at The Post with some live music, food, and cocktails

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Friends and family have encouraged and supported us from the beginning. A special shoutout to Kris Potts for telling us to just go for it and giving us resources to get us started.
