We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethanie Brewer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bethanie, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
That not everyone is going to be cheering you on and proud of your accomplishments. You have to be your biggest supporter and believe in yourself one hundred percent.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hairdressing is an ever changing art form. I have been blessed to have some extraordinary opportunities. Each opportunity challenged my skills, my mindset and propelled me to want more. While working behind the chair as a hairdresser in Germany, I did an internship in barbering, I did not enjoy it! I admire all the barbers on so many levels! Color enhancement is my daily creative excitement. The transformations that unfold make me want to giggle with sheer glee! I began in Europe working as a color specialist and teaching color applications to fellow stylists. That was over thirty years ago, though it seems like yesterday. Every day is not spent behind the chair in my salon . I have had the wonderful opportunities to work on photo shoots, editorial shoots, Miami Swim Week, New York Fashion Week and the International Hairdressing Awards in Madrid Spain. This upcoming February 2021 I am slated to return to New York to work with a Parisian designer. I am inspired by so many in this industry. I continually strive to learn, adapt and stay green. It is difficult to set new goals and not be scared, scared to fail and scared of who won’t be in your cheering section. I have learned.failing is a part of success. To surround myself with people who want my success as much as their own. They remind me exactly who I am and where I started from.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Charlie Price and The Beauty Underground Team. The talent and support is breathtaking in this organization. They are bold but not arrogant, humble but not timid.
