We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Hamm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been an artist. I grew up sketching, drawing and painting with my grandmother who is a nationally known quilter. From there, I was able to learn the skills of perspective and shading that carry over into my work in VFX still today. The art of storytelling (editing and directing), however, comes from growing up with a family that enjoys telling stories. I love being able to see a story come to life from paper to big screen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Director, Film Editor, and I’m also a Video Producer at Fellowship Church. I love telling the story, whether it’s behind the camera or in front of the computer. There’s something special about seeing a story being told from idea to completion and seeing it impact people’s lives. It’s powerful. Media has power, and I love that I get to use my gifts to see people’s lives changed through a screen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m probably a little different than most, because I’m an outdoorsman. If my friend was coming into town, we would definitely do some fishing, and, depending on the time of year, hunting. I’m a firm believer that spending time the outdoors gives you perspective as to where we came from as society and just recalibrates my mind and sparks my creativity. The camaraderie you can experience when you have success in the outdoors with a friend has no rival. Sometimes you have to get away from the screens and masses, you know?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Where do I begin? I’ve been able to work with so many amazing filmmakers in DFW that have helped me get to where I am today. Brett and Tiffany Bentman at B22 films gave me my first shot at feature film editing and in 2020, we’ve been able to release 3 features and produce a TV pilot. I also have to shoutout my wife, Bethany! She’s very supportive, even though editing usually takes long hours and late nights.
