Meet Rashaun Robinson

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rashaun Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rashaun, what makes you happy? Why?
Creating something for myself. Whenever I paint clothes for myself I feel like my own video game character who has their own custom attire. Most of the clothes I wear are 1 of 1 that I make for myself to just express my individuality when I’m out in the world – regardless of how others may perceive me. It makes me feel good that nobody or not too many people can replicate my ideas and creativity.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say like most creatives I have distinctive personality traits, interests, and certain ways of expressing myself that might come off a little unique to the general population that aren’t artists. I like to paint on clothes by using different references that I may have received inspiration from whether it comes from watching movies & tv shows, listening to music, playing video games or even simply looking at how regular people choose how to express themselves fashionably. I grew up indulging in skateboarding culture, playing videos games, watching a lot of movies while still soaking other peoples interests and style so a lot of my style comes from little bits and pieces of all those things. When I was younger I wasn’t as confident and secure within myself as far as expressing my random interest, but I’d say when I was 16-17 years old I started finding passion in making clothes for myself. I use to be scared of seeming more different than everyone else prior to me being 16 but when I started making clothes I started realizing there will always be people who aren’t going to agree with how you choose to express yourselves and that you respectfully have to let people know you don’t care how they perceive you. Once I started college I started doing fashion shows, pop up shows, and even attracted a couple of magazine articles & podcasters. I say one of my many proudest moments was being able to do my own solo runway fashion show on my 22nd birthday. I did quite a few fashion shows and cherished all of those but that one was one of my favorites because so much randomness was happening that you wouldn’t even thought the show was gonna have the turn out it did. The things we did to prepare for the show was last minute plus a lot of other things almost ruined the show but somehow we still made it happen and it had a pretty decent turnout. Met alot of supporters that still keep up and a couple people that I’ve ended up collaborating with later down the line. I just hope the world sees my brand/story and says, “wow he really does what he wants and doesn’t care…. That’s awesome! Maybe we can learn a thing or two from him.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be honest, not sure I’d be the best host (laughs) Id say now that I’m older I’m pretty modest when it comes to the things I enjoy these days. Personally I’d just take them thrifting or if it’s in season we can go to a Dallas Cowboys game or Texas Rangers game then we go bowling afterwards and get some food, maybe a couple drinks. When I was younger I probably would’ve took that person to a party or something.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to God & Jesus for putting me here on earth and giving me opportunities to tell my story on platforms like this, my supportive lovely parents because without them I wouldn’t have been fortunate enough to accomplish certain things. As far as others outside my blood, there’s too many people who’ve helped me get to where I’m at to single anyone out – only thing I can say is I appreciate everyone who’s supported my journey by helping me with shows, buying my clothes, plugging me into platforms, and letting me express myself without judgement
