We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Robyn Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Robyn, how do you define success?
As simple as it sounds, I truly believe that successful people want to “do right” rather than “be right” across the domains of their professional careers (and even in personal relationships). In the clinical field, this often involves heavy ethical deliberation and ultimately making the unpopular “best bad decision,” which can feel like a lonely spot for leaders and business owners. I was asked once if I would work with someone who actively causes harm. Without hesitation, I responded, “Yes – because if we obstruct access to care for those who cause harm, are we not causing harm ourselves?” Success lies in careful deliberation, consultation with folks who have gone through trial and error, and intentional action that leads to a favorable outcome.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Legacy Trails Therapy, PLLC, is a collective of empathic and brilliant minds. We work some niche intersections of concerns and identities (i.e., neurodivergence and sex; cult survivors; intellectuals and academic minds; marginalized sexual expression).

This practice started out as a means to support my family after my husband lost his job. It has grown to serve clients in Texas, Colorado, and Missouri. What helps us stand out is that we accept insurance to remain accessible for clients – especially in this type of economy we are currently experiencing.

I cannot say it has been easy…but it has been worth it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dr. Bruce Perry, author of “Boy Raised as a Dog,” gets my shoutout. His trauma-focused work continues to inspire me as I work with adults who have survived inconceivable traumatic experiences – the kind of trauma that would even make Hollywood feel uncomfortable. I appreciate his writing style and integration of neurophysiology into his experiences working with children.
