Meet Julio Martinez | Spokesperson for Art & Frame Outlet

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julio Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julio, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I spoke with Martin to better understand the key factors behind his success at Art & Frame Outlet, and he shared that the support of his family and colleagues has played a significant role in his success, as it allows him to maintain a positive mindset that carries over into his interactions with customers. A majority of our customers are returning customers that we’ve had for years, probably since the early 90s. They would always return thanks to Martin. Many of them saw both my brother and I grow up inside the various frame shops Martin was working in. We were always by his side, whether we were greeting customers or helping them carries items to their vehicle. My mother was also next to my father the entire time. She was in charge of assembling the frames for clients and was very efficient at it, she was the best.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Martin began working at a fruit packaging company around the Farmer’s Market district of Downtown Dallas. He was in charge of inventory and obviously packaging. However, he stated that some of the labor practices were not some of the best, leading him to be overworked and often overlooked by some of the managers. He eventually decided to leave when he came across a Korean business man who was opening an “art and frame” shop. Martin got hired and immediately began to understand how the framing business works. He eventually became manager of several north Texas locations but he had the opportunity to become the owner of one and that store was Art & Frame Outlet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Martin enjoyed taking family members that were visiting to downtown Dallas. Our downtown isn’t the biggest but it’s the closes thing we have to a “city life” here in the city. From taking a break at Klyde Warren Park to looking inside the Sixth Floor Museum and immediately grabbing a steak at Y.O Ranch Steakhouse. The number one spot he would take someone would be any Korean restaurant in K-Town Dallas on Royal that has a cooking table. Martin has been enjoying Korean cuisine since the early 90s and loves to bring it up since now Korean food has become mainstream throughout the United States.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Martin also emphasized that the support from his fellow coworkers was a key to his success. Any individual who has worked with my father has become a life long family friend. They’ve been to his wedding, he’s been to theirs. Currently, Fernando, an Art & Frame worker that has been in the business since the late 2000s is now manager of Art & Frame Outlet. Martin had to step down for a while due to some health concerns with his eye and Fernando has taken the mantle for now while Martin is in recovery.
