Meet Janet Ramirez | Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janet, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I truly believe if you’re not taking risks, you’re not really living. From joining the military at 17, to stepping into my first civilian job in completely new territory, and now transitioning into the beauty industry — risk has always been part of my journey. I’ll rather take risks and fail than play it safe and live with regret.
Yes, taking risks can be a little frightening, but there’s something freeing about knowing you went all in, even without knowing the outcome. For me, jumping into a career in esthetics, something I knew nothing about other than I loved getting facials — required work, courage, and a willingness to bet on myself. Looking back, I’m so glad I did. Taking that leap of faith time after time has shaped who I am today and has made life scary, fun, and exciting all at once.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I love what I do, but getting here wasn’t easy. Making a fresh start in a new field later in life came with challenges — from competing in a youth-dominated industry, and having to use social media to promote, to building clientele from scratch and running my own business – all while juggling a 9-5, marriage, and motherhood was a struggle at times. But it’s important to show up every day, be patient, never stop learning and try your best not to compare yourself to others. Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight and we are all on our own journey. Give yourself grace.
My story is proof that it’s never too late to start something new, no matter your age, no matter where you are in life. Starting a career in esthetics in my 40s has also had its advantages – my experiences have given me a sense of calm, understanding, and perspective that allows me to approach every treatment with care and intention. I want every person that visits my studio to walk out feeling confident, recharged, seen and glowing both inside and out. I want them to understand that beauty isn’t just about our physical looks — it’s about how we feel when we take the time to nurture ourselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Maybe I’m biased because I’m from the area, but I would definitely take them to Oak Cliff, around Bishop Arts. Not only is my esthetics studio located there, but it’s one of the most historic and fun spots in Dallas — colorful, artsy, and full of good vibes. From murals and cute boutiques to coffee shops and some of the best food in the city, every corner has something new to discover. It feels a little small-town, a little big-city, always busy and alive.
It’s also close to downtown Dallas, so you have a view to one of the best skylines in the world!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, my husband deserves all the recognition because he took over so much while I was at night school and honing my skills. There is no way I would have reached my goals without his backing and encouragement.
My friends and family get a shoutout because they’ve supported my business since the get-go, either by being my clients, or referring me to their families and friends, promoting me on social media, and so on.
Lastly, there’s so many that have inspired me – friends and acquaintances in the beauty industry, some of my Ogle School instructors, those whom have taught courses that I’ve taken, even those on social media that don’t gate keep and share their knowledge. They’ve all been invaluable.
