We had the good fortune of connecting with Myron Oliver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myron, how do you think about risk?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t taken some calculated risks. I take risks with intent, thinking how can I grow from this or how would this elevate my purpose. Also, every risk I take is tied to my faith. Trusting God’s plan allows me to step into uncertainty with confidence, knowing that my gift has a purpose beyond what I can see.
I had to leave my comfort zone (city, home, family, steady gigs) to find the peace that I have now. I also had to leave my comfort zone musically to even tap into the potential of where my music is taking me… Learning multiple genres of music and doing my own management and booking, going from a band member to a soloist. Huge risk!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I do is more than just playing music. I engage with people and use my saxophone to create uplifting, memorable experiences for everyone listening. I set myself apart by being versatile—I cover multiple genres and always read the crowd so I can bring the right vibe to any occasion.

Right now, I’m most excited about the future. God continues to open doors, and I’m grateful for every single opportunity to use my gift. Getting here wasn’t about shortcuts—it was about never giving up. Even at my lowest, playing the saxophone has been the thing that lifted me up.

The road has been tough at times. As a solo saxophonist, I’ve had plenty of people (booking managers and such) assume my show would be boring—some even ask if I can do a duet! But I’ve learned you have to push through the ‘no’s’ to get to the ‘yes.’ Every rejection just means I’m closer to the right opportunity.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that what God has for me is for me—nobody can take that away. Faith is action. My brand is built on faith and perseverance, and at the heart of it all, I truly love #usingmygift2uplift. And… “if you call me Byron I’m just gonna turn around to see who you’re talking to” lol!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely take my friend to eat at The Cookout Kitchen, Didi’s Downtown, and Kareem’s Potato Dream food truck! I like karaoke and live music so I’d take them to 4Thirteen Kitchen and Sports Lounge on a Sunday or Wednesday for karaoke or Fri/Sat for live music, and there’s always a good vibe at Winsome Prime for Sunday Brunch (especially when I’m there).
Anyone visiting DFW has gotta check out The Star and the downtown Dallas rooftops.

I’m taking my friends to my church too! Good word, great people, ministry and music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout first to God, because my gift of playing sax is truly His calling on my life. I also owe so much to my Queen, my beautiful wife Ebony, my family, my real friends, and my New Life Community Church family for their unwavering love and support.
