Meet Big Lando | Designer, Content Creator, Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Big Lando and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Big Lando, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Myself (Big Lando) have a phrase which says “Where We At Doe” and I put the phrase on T-Shirts and that’s when it came to me that I should start the brand and call it “Unkanny” with the slogan being “Be Your Own Hero”. We used the slogan of “Be Your Own Hero” to empower are consumers so they understand that they can believe in themselves which gives them an Unkanny Feeling. So from there I created designs that people can resonate with. I just want people to feel good when they wear the brand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most excited for the whole word being impacted by “Unkanny”. I got into this by just putting ideas together and trying different things. Ive always been creative and at first I didn’t know if I could create a brand. I started doing research about the biggest brands in the world and that inspired me to create my own especially seeing how these creators of brands are no different from we all have the ability to create something. It’s definitely not easy from; supplies, marketing, research and daily tasks. I overcame challenges by always finding joy that I’m learning something from these challenges and it has made me a better problem solver. I’ve learned that you can’t be afraid to make mistakes and that the biggest rewards come from bold risk, if it doesn’t scare you sometimes then you should go for a bigger risk. I want the world to know that Unkanny is a brand that wants to inspire people to think highly of themselves and to be loving and genuine to others.I want people to know that I didn’t have it all figured out but I kept getting the courage to try and I’m going to continue to learn and grow while empowering others along this process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Soon as they land I’m going to give them a few shirts from Unkanny, We’re going to Deep Ellum first and eat good at Picadera on Main Street I love their wings after that we walk around Deep Ellum exploring throughout then we hit up Klyde Warren Park, Also we would go get a J’s Special From “SNJ Hot Chick” they have the best chicken sandwich in Dallas. Also we would hit up the Galleria Mall and Get fresh at “Private Selection” it’s an apparel and streetwear store with the best variety. We would Goto Elote Mendoza and get the best elotes Dallas has to offer. We would hit up the bishop arts district which has so many different bars and businesses that are very fun. We are going to the best food truck in Dallas which is “Bells Sweet Factory” no place can come close to them. We would goto “Grandscape” and “The Star” both areas are full of fun and excitement. We would hit up “Jazzys Tacos” for the best birria in Dallas. Also we would hangout with Dallas Freshest Uncle which is no other than “Professor Skoola” and get some customized food from the best personal chef of “Greg’s Savory Creations” we can’t forget BBQ so we’re ending the trip with “Hutchins BBQ”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shoutout to my lady and my children. My lady helped fund the business gave creative ideas and promotes endlessly. My children brought a fun side to it and gave me motivation that a cool dad like myself can own a brand that people of all ages can relate to. It makes the process much more fun when it’s family oriented so I’m very thankful for my family be the driving force of support and motivation. I want to give a special shoutout to my son Marxx he’s no longer with us but he’s represented throughout the brand. Long Live Marxx
