Meet Brandi McComb | Owner | Vocal Coach & Voice/Drum Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi McComb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting McComb Vocal Studio was deeply personal for me. After spending over 30 years performing professionally and teaching at other music schools, I realized I wanted to create something more meaningful and personal, a space where students of all ages could feel safe, confident, and creatively free. I wanted to build a studio that focused not just on singing or drumming techniques, but on developing true performers, helping each student find their unique voice and stage presence. As a single mom and lifelong musician, I also needed a career path that allowed flexibility while using my gifts to inspire others. McComb Vocal Studio became a way to combine my passion for music, my love for teaching, and my desire to make a real difference in my students’ lives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has always been rooted in a deep love for music and a passion for helping others find their voice. I grew up in a family of musicians, so music was always part of my world, it wasn’t just something we did, it was who we were. I started singing as a child, performing at local Opry houses, participating in show choir and a cappella groups, and eventually went on to tour professionally as a singer, dancer, and actress. I’ve spent over 30 years in the music industry, including fronting my own band for 18 years and working in both live performance and studio settings.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach people how to sing or play drums, I help develop true performers. My approach blends vocal technique with performance coaching, emotional connection, and confidence-building. I work with students of all ages, from kids just starting out to adults returning to their passion, and I tailor each lesson to bring out their unique strengths.
At McComb Vocal Studio, we celebrate growth through performance. We host student showcases to give everyone a chance to shine on stage, and during the holidays, we bring music into the community by singing at local nursing homes. I also offer mini lessons for ages 5–7, introducing little ones to music in a fun and encouraging way.
Starting this studio was about creating a space where creativity, confidence, and joy could thrive. Building a business takes grit and heart, but the progress I see in my students every day makes it all worth it.
What I want the world to know is this: music is for everyone. Whether you’re preparing for the big stage or just singing for the love of it, your voice matters. McComb Vocal Studio is a place to grow, express yourself, and fall in love with music, no matter your age or experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, we’d definitely make the most of it! I’m based in Rowlett, TX, which is just outside of Dallas, so we’d get a great mix of local charm and big-city fun.
Day 1: We’d kick things off with brunch at The Flying Biscuit Café or Toast & Jam in Rockwall, nothing beats southern comfort food to start the trip. Then we’d spend the afternoon relaxing by Lake Ray Hubbard, maybe even rent a boat or walk the Harbor for some scenic views.
Day 2: A trip into Deep Ellum in Dallas is a must. We’d grab lunch at Pecan Lodge (best BBQ hands down) and spend the day exploring local record shops, murals, and unique boutiques. At night, we’d hit a live music venue, probably The Kessler Theater or Trees to catch a local band.
Day 3: For a chill day, I’d take them to Downtown Rowlett, we’d grab coffee at Land of a Thousand Hills and check out local small businesses. Later we’d head over to Granada Theater or catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse.
Day 4: We’d do something outdoorsy like Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden or a picnic at White Rock Lake. That evening, dinner at Si Tapas or The Rustic, great food and usually live music.
Day 5: Time for a little shopping and sightseeing, we’d hit up NorthPark Center for upscale shopping or Bishop Arts District for something more indie and artsy. I’d plan a nice dinner at Nick & Sam’s or Katy Trail Ice House.
Day 6: A full-on fun day at Six Flags Over Texas or maybe even a day trip to Waco to visit Magnolia Market if they’re into home design. Dinner would be something casual like Twisted Root Burger Co. or Truck Yard.
Day 7: We’d wrap the week with a Sunday brunch at Bread Winners Café, then visit a few thrift stores or vintage spots around Dallas before heading to a relaxing evening watching the sunset back at the lake.
There’s so much to do here between the music, food, lakeside views, and creative energy, it’s the perfect mix of small-town warmth and big-city excitement. And the people? Friendly, passionate, and full of stories, just like Texas should be.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely, there are so many people who have played a part in my journey, but if I had to give a shoutout, it would go first to my daughters. They’ve been my reason and my motivation through every challenge. Their strength, creativity, and love inspire me daily. I also want to recognize the amazing students and families I’ve worked with over the years, so many of them believed in me before I even fully believed in myself.
I also owe a lot to the musicians and mentors I performed with during my years touring and in the studio, they helped shape my ear, my discipline, and my passion for teaching. I’m also deeply grateful to the former directors and instructors I had the privilege of working alongside. They challenged me, inspired me, and helped me grow as both a teacher and a performer.
It truly takes a village, and I’m beyond grateful for mine.
