Meet Anthony Ngo | Pediatric Dentist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Ngo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being Oak Cliff natives for the last decade, we realized that there was a void in comprehensive, specialized pediatric dental care in Oak Cliff. As locals, we believe that when we pour back into our community – by creating places like clinics, shops, and small businesses – we help our families grow and thrive. Our hope is for &Smiles to do exactly that.

What should our readers know about your business?
&Smiles Pediatric Dentistry offers not only premium Board-Certified care, but we are proud to be rooted in our community. Additionally, we provide the full scope of Pediatric Dentistry, including preventative care, minimally invasive treatments, sedation options, and specialized care for children with special needs. The office features modern technology, a kid-friendly environment, and a team specially trained to meet the unique needs of young patients—from infants to teens.
The name “&Smiles” was born because we are proud to be rooted in our community. Our goal is to be able to get to know our patients and families, as if our own. We believe that part of going to the dentist is more the just a smile. It’s about every facet that makes them who they are: their hobbies, their school, their pets, their friends… It’s about everything “&Smiles.”
Both Dr. Ngo and Dr. Garces worked as associate dentists for different Pediatric Dental practices for the last decade. We were comfortable, but our career seemed like it plateaued. We both sought a new challenge, and wanted to build something that we could call our own. The start-up life has been stressful and something that I keep reminding myself is “Rome was not built in a day,” and that it will take a slow and consistent grind to be able to achieve our dreams as a business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What we love about Dallas is that all the different “neighborhoods” that share it’s own personality. Of course being an Oak Cliff Native, brunch at Written by the Seasons or Tribal Cafe followed by a stroll through Bishop Arts to check out all the stores and coffee shops. It’s also fun to hop over to Lower Greenville and have lunch at Ngon and have a drink on the rooftop of HIDE or HG Supply. We also have some amazing hotels to visit in Dallas, and it’s also fun to do a Staycation for a night or two at Hotel Swexan or the Thompson Hotel. The list goes on and on…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to shoutout our friends and family, and each other. As friends, we decided to open our Pediatric Dental start-up together as practice partners. Opening a dental start-up while working full-time took lots of time and sacrifice from our personal lives, but also from our friends and family. To have people in your corner to support and cheer you on is invaluable.
To top it all off, Dr. Garces had newborn baby at the start of our launch and Dr. Ngo experienced the loss of his father. As people say, life continues to move on even through hardship, the building and growth of our practice would not have been possible without the ability to lean on each other.
