Meet Kevin Shelton | Automotive Mechanic & Technician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Shelton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At first my thought process was I’m going to start a business to just “work for myself”. I wanted to be financially free, plus the jobs I was trying to work didn’t align with my happiness and purpose in this life. I would always daydream about working for myself while working a 9-5 gig, but I struggled with what I could offer the world or the communities I live in. Then, in August of 2021, my father passed away and he was a longtime mechanic and entrepreneur. He created and owned a towing, automotive repair and automotive sales businesses. He ingrained in us the value, purpose, and the responsibility of entrepreneurship. He built his businesses from ground up on the strength of his passion for cars and love for people. When he passed away I figured out what my passion was and I put the lessons he taught me to work. My father inspired me to be a great mechanic- to do something that will make our name and legacy live on So I started a mobile automotive repair business and went to work, I never looked back.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say what sets me apart from others is my passion for the automotive field. There’s so much more that I want to get involved in when it comes to the automotive industry. I’m most excited that there are multitudes of people that trust me with their vehicles and believe in me. Coming from the bottom it’s hard to get people to trust you when first starting out. I got to where I’m at by being patient with the process, consistent with the plan, and faithful to the Lord. When starting a business there’s no guarantee that it’ll work out how you want things to and when you want them too. Just stay patient, consistent and faithful. It wasn’t easy! But, I’ve always loved a challenge- I got the competitiveness from playing sports and lifting weights as a young kid. I just kept going and striving for what I want and to be great at what I do once I achieve it. The lessons I’ve learned through my journey is that money management is a big part of owning a business. Customer service is also a very big part of your brand. Integrity in communication is the automotive industry’s downfall. Therefore, I set out everyday to always communicate with honesty and to be as thorough with my repairs and my communication with my customers as I can be. I believe it sets the tone for the relationship I’m building with them and also, helps to increase any return business with them. It’s important to me that the world and my community remembers me as one of the best automotive mechanics there ever was. I also want them to understand no matter where you come from you can always achieve greatness when you put your mind to it. Never give up! I never have and don’t plan on starting!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them all over the DFW honestly. There’s a lot to do here and a lot of great people. A few places I would take them to hang out is K1 Speed Racing, I would take them to watch a Dallas Mavericks basketball game or a Dallas Cowboys football game. DFW has the best fans! Also, I would go to the Yello Belly drag strip to watch cars race. Places to eat would be Papadeaux, Sweet Georgia Browns, Razzoos and The Chicken Hut. Those are the top few places I would go.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes. My family played a major roll in my business, as mental and moral support, when I’m having bad days at work. They always keep me focused and remind me of something – “We’re built for tough times. We don’t fold, bend or break. We just keep going and staying optimistic and faithful.” .
