Meet Robbie Clark | Music Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robbie Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robbie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always loved live music but never had the drive to learn an instrument. I used to mess around with my mom’s old film camera and eventually got a point-and-shoot for my birthday. When a friend started a local band, I began tagging along, casually taking photos just for fun. I didn’t think much of it—until one night at a bigger show, I saw someone shooting in the photo pit and it just clicked. I realized this was something I could actually pursue on a larger scale. And with the rise of social media, it’s only continued to grow from there.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the best descriptions I’ve ever received came from a local outlet that said I was “making undiscovered artists look like billion-dollar rock stars, with photos full of taste, color, and life.” That’s exactly what I strive for. No matter the size of the band, I aim to make every artist look larger than life—with images that pop with rich, vibrant color.
When it comes to how I got to where I am today, it’s hard to put into words. I just picked up the camera and got to work—asking bands coming to town if I could shoot their upcoming shows, delivering photos quickly, and being grateful for every opportunity. It’s never been easy, and after 10 years, I still learn something new every day. But the one thing I will say is: just be a good person, have a quick turnaround, and the rest will follow. At least, that’s been my experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re looking for a good time, Deep Ellum has a ton of great spots. A few of my favorites are Terry Black’s BBQ, TX Tea Room, Will Call, Deep Ellum Art Co, and Three Links.
You also can’t go wrong with catching a Mavs or Stars game at American Airlines Center, or the Rangers at Globe Life Field
When it comes to concerts, my go-to venues would be The Bomb Factory, Toyota Music Factory, or American Airlines Center. Those places are always a blast for live shows.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my mom—cheesy as it sounds. One day she handed me her old film camera, and for some reason, it just clicked. Big thanks to my friends in Naturalist for starting a band and somehow being cool with me constantly bugging them with a camera. And lastly, to Third String Productions—whether they knew it or not, they gave me one of my first real bigger shows. Looking back, I probably had no business being in that photo pit with how new I was, but that moment helped set everything in motion.
